Please join us on Sunday  for a talk by Austrian author and award-winning filmmaker  Bernhard Rammerstorfer  about his latest book and film entitled  "TAKING THE STAND: We Have More to Say." For five years, Rammerstorfer collected questions about the Holocaust from students all over the world. His project presents nine different survivors' responses to those questions.

Rammerstorfer's talk will be followed by a screening of excerpts from the "Taking the Stand" film and interviews with two participants in the project, LAMOTH Board member  Renée Firestone,  an Auschwitz survivor, and  Hermine Liska,  who as a child of Austrian Jehovah's Witnesses, was taken from her parents and sent to a "reeducation center."

Book Signing with Simon Goodman
Wednesday, October 21, at 7:00 pm

Join us at 7:00 pm on Wednesday for celebration, conversation and book signing with Simon Goodman, author of The Orpheus Clock, the passionate, gripping, true story of one man's single-minded quest to reclaim what the Nazis stole from his family, their beloved art collection, and to restore their legacy.

After his father's death, Goodman discovered that his grandparents' magnificent, world-class art collection had been stolen by the Nazis. Much of the collection had gone to Hitler and Hermann Goering; other works had been smuggled through Switzerland, sold and resold to collectors and dealers, with many works now in famous museums.

With the help of his family, Goodman initiated the first Nazi looting case to be settled in the United States. They also brought about the first major restitution in The Netherlands since the post-war era.

Lunch & Learn: New Conversations on Holocaust Education with Deb Bowen
Friday, October 23, at 12:00 pm

Thirteen years ago, Deb Bowen of Aledo, Illinois, was inspired by Holocaust Survivors to have young authors and illustrators preserve Survivor
narratives in storybook form. The project, "A BOOK by ME," has now expanded to over 90 different book titles created "by kids for kids."  Author Deb Bowen decided to share these "stories behind the stories," describing the relationships between the young authors and their subjects in her own book, "A Walk With Esther."  Join us as Deb Bowen shares how she started her project and the response of teachers as they use the books in the classroom. She will also discuss her effort to capture the stories of the last of the World War II generation.
