Extreme Heat Warning with SCDD Logo

Thursday, September 1 - Tuesday, September 6, 2022

EXTREME HEAT is coming to California, with some areas experiencing temperatures above 110 degrees! The California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) has created this guide as a friendly reminder to our staff and stakeholders to take precautions during this extreme weather event.

  • Be aware because extreme heat can cause health problems including heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and even death.

  • Check-in with people who may need help, including pets.

  • Stay indoors, in cool temperatures if you can, and keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as non-caffeinated beverages, like water.

  • Fruits or vegetables with high water-content (watermelon, watercress, lettuce, and apples) are also good sources to help stay hydrated.
