Veterans Day at FISD....More than a Holiday
This was the 15 th year of the FISD Veterans Day Ceremony, and I can say with certainty that it was as meaningful as the first. The ceremony has changed in 15 years, and one of the most significant changes is that our students are the speakers, presenters and performers. From the placemats at the breakfast to the speeches at the ceremony, they are all created and delivered by our students. Students are doing more than listening about how to be grateful for the sacrifices of our veterans and their families; they are actively engaged in learning about and celebrating service to our country. At our elementary campuses, veterans were honored at assemblies and receptions and they even visited classrooms to speak to students about their service. On November 11 th , FISD did not have a holiday for students. What we did have was far more meaningful in my opinion, a day where we took time with our families and community to honor the men and women who have given their lives to the service of our country. I’ll close with the words of Kaylee Loggins, FHS senior, and Veterans Day Ceremony speaker.
“Thank you for sacrificing the time away from your friends and family. Thank you for sacrificing missed holidays and special occasions. Thank you for sacrificing your safety so that we can have ours. Thank you for being courageous so that we do not have to be. Thank you for taking on the emotional, physical, and mental pain of war so that we do not have to experience it. Thank you for fighting for us and our nation.”

Wishing each of you a wonderful, restful Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by those you love most.

The FISD Social Work Department has a new face, Mrs. Jennifer Grant, FISD Social Worker. Some of her goals for the department include identifying FISD children with unmet basic needs, addressing the needs of FISD’s special populations including migrant, homeless, foster, and military, and meeting the social and emotional learning needs of our students.

Listen to Mrs. Grant, Dr. Galloway and Ms. Guerra discuss how the FISD Social Work Department is helping our Floresville Family on Episode 10 of the T&L Talks podcast.

Designing Innovative Learning Environments: Collaborative Spaces
If you google “skills employers are looking for”, you will find collaboration on every list. Fortunately, not only does the FISD Portrait of a Graduate identify collaboration as an essential skill, the FISD Strategic Plan also specifically addresses collaboration. FISD is identifying and equipping at least one space at every campus that will promote collaboration among students. The way a space looks and functions impacts student learning.

Texas Education Agency Awards FISD $125,000
Superintendent with 2 Administrators
Floresville ISD is one of 25 districts selected by the Texas Education Agency to receive a $125,000 Blended Learning Planning Grant.
Blended Learning is an instructional model that combines traditional teaching methods with electronic or online resources. It allows a more flexible learning environment to engage all students, regardless of their learning style.
The grant will support the work outlined in the FISD Strategic Plan to implement
student-centered instructional models through innovative teaching and learning practices. FISD is proud of the work done by Dr. Rhonda Wade and her team to ensure that the district has additional resources to enhance learning.
