Influenza Update:
  • Locally, influenza activity has significantly increased in recent weeks. At the State level, influenza activity is widespread. Influenza activity is expected to continue for months; it's not too late to vaccinate.
  • The most frequently identified influenza virus reported by Orange County Public Health Laboratory was influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus.
  • No influenza-associated deaths in persons under the age of 65 years have been reported to Orange County Public Health so far this season.
Clinical News:
  • Vaccinating hospitalized patients does not increase risk of outpatient visits, hospital readmission, fever or laboratory tests for infection (read more here).
  • Seasonal influenza vaccine reduced influenza-related hospitalizations among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by 37.5% (read more here).
