Camden County Educator Named New Jersey State Teacher of the Year
NJDOE announced that Kimberly Dickstein , a high
school English teacher at Haddonfield Memorial High School, has been named the 2019-20 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year. Additional information can be found on the Governor's Educator of the Year webpage .
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
NJDOE staff provided an ESSA update regarding what has been achieved… and implementation information for 2019-2020.

Appointments
The State Board approved the following positions:
  • Julie Bunt, Director, Office of Charter and Renaissance Schools, Division of Executive Services;
  • Salma Chand, Executive Legal Affairs Officer, Division of Executive Services;
  • Christopher Cox, Director, Office of STEM, Division of Academics and Performance;
  • Martin Egan, Director, Office of Grants Management, Division of Finance; and
  • Rani Singh, Director, Office of Certification and Induction, Division of Academics and Performance

Resolution to Approve New Proficient Level Cut Scores for the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment Science (NJSLA-S)
The State Board adopted new proficient level cut scores for the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment Science, pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:8-4. Prior to the Board's action,
NJDOE Assistant Commissioner Dr. Linda Eno and staff presented a PowerPoint .

Standards and Assessment
The State Board postponed action on a proposal regarding substantial changes to the NJDOE’s proposed regulations concerning standards and assessment. NJDOE staff also presented a Standards and Assessment PowerPoint to the State Board.

The State Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Monday, October 21, 2019, to consider and take action on the Notice of Substantial Changes pertaining to Chapter 8, Standards and Assessment.
First Discussion
The State Board discussed the amendments pertaining to the swimming and water safety endorsement at N.J.A.C. 6A:9B11.10, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:4-15, 18A:6-38, and
18A:26-2.3.
