Important Safety Updates
Dear Gillespie Families,
As the district reviews safety procedures, we refine our practices to ensure we do everything possible to keep our students safe and focused on learning. Being vigilant about building access is essential, and below are some updates for you to note.
I also want to underscore the value we place on knowing our students, listening to them, and trusting them to come to an adult if they have a safety concern. I hope your child feels this way, and I welcome their (and your) questions, concerns, and ideas as we work to make our school a welcoming, positive, and safe learning environment.
Some important updates to note:
Entrance to school
We ask all visitors (including families) to enter through the main office door #1. When you ring the buzzer, please expect to be asked your name and the nature of your visit. Even though you may be a familiar face to our secretaries, they must ask before allowing access to our building.
Check-in at the main office
Once buzzed in, proceed directly to the main office, where you will sign in and receive a visitor’s badge.
Student drop-off and pick-up
Before and after school, students must be dropped off and picked up on the Memorial High School side of the building at doors 3 and 4. Upon entering Gillespie’s drive off Gammon Rd, you will turn right and follow the marked signs for the traffic pattern/flow on the south side of the building (Memorial High School side).
During the school day, if you are picking up your student for an appointment, you may use the north lot, where there is visitor parking outside our middle school entrance.
For the safety of our students, parents should not enter the lot on the north side before or after school. This is the lot shared with the Lussier Community Center.
Once school is in session, parents can access this lot and use the visitor parking for picking up students for appointments, etc.
Picking up early
If your child needs to leave before the end of the school day, send a note with your student and have them stop in the office before the start of the school day for an out pass. You can also leave this information on our attendance line (608-663-6403) before the beginning of the school day. Your student will then be waiting and watching for you in the office at the designated time. We understand emergencies but ask that, when possible, you let us know in advance to avoid classroom interruptions. Our office is busy, and you may have to wait if we do not have prior notice.
Please, no pick-ups in the last fifteen minutes of the school day.
Dropping off items
If you are dropping off an item for your child, you will leave it in our office. Please make sure to write the student's full name. We will contact the classroom for the student to come and pick up the items from the office.
Visitors
Engaging in our student's education is beneficial for families and the community. We also want to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our students to learn. Please pre-arrange your visit with the classroom teacher if you plan to visit. The teacher will communicate with the office about your visit.
Volunteers
Our students greatly benefit from the time and support our volunteers give our school. All volunteers will complete the background check and work with staff to create a schedule. Volunteers’ schedules are created and shared in the office.

Dejar y Recoger Estudiantes - Antes y Después de la Escuela
Antes y después de la escuela, los estudiantes deben ser dejados y recogidos en el lado del edificio de la escuela Preparatoria / Superior (Memorial High School) en las puertas 3 y 4.
Para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, los padres no deben ingresar al estacionamiento del lado norte antes o después de la escuela. Este es el lote compartido con el Centro Comunitario Lussier.
Una vez que la escuela está en sesión, los padres pueden acceder a este lote y usar el estacionamiento para visitantes para recoger a los estudiantes para citas, etc.

Visitantes

voluntarios
Nuestros estudiantes se benefician enormemente del tiempo y el apoyo que nuestros voluntarios brindan a nuestra escuela. Todos los voluntarios completarán la verificación de antecedentes y trabajarán con el personal para crear un horario.
