On Tuesday, December 19th, students and staff will participate in an activity day to celebrate what we have accomplished this school year. We will follow the Monday early release schedule, and for the last hour and a half of the school day, students will choose to participate in various activities to connect with each other and staff before the break. One of the activities available will be the "A Gift to Give" store. In this store, the students can look through hundreds of donations from the local community and use their Grizzly Tickets to purchase items to give to people who are special to them. There will also be gift bags and tissue paper available for students to wrap the gifts that they buy!

El martes 19 de diciembre, los estudiantes y el personal participarán en un día de actividades para celebrar los logros obtenidos durante este año escolar. Seguiremos el horario de salida temprana del lunes y durante la última hora y media del día escolar, los estudiantes elegirán participar en diversas actividades para conectarse entre sí y con el personal antes del receso. Una de las actividades disponibles será la tienda “Un Regalo para Dar”. En esta tienda, los estudiantes pueden ver cientos de donaciones de la comunidad local y usar sus boletos Grizzly para comprar artículos y dárselos a las personas que son especiales para ellos. ¡También habrá bolsas de regalo y papel disponibles para que los estudiantes envuelvan los regalos que compren!

We are excited to announce a new addition to our weekly gazette. Each week, we will include a grade-level newsletter to inform you of what is happening in your student's classes for the current week and foreshadow what’s coming up.

Multico students from West High School create and perform short sketches highlighting culture, bullying, race, gender, sexuality, and conflict. Multico tours over thirty elementary and middle schools annually, providing another tool for MMSD classroom teachers to use as we all work towards a more empathetic world. On Friday, December 8, the Multico students performed for the Gillespie 6th graders.

Los estudiantes de Multico de West High School crean y representan bocetos cortos que destacan la cultura, el acoso, la raza, el género, la sexualidad y los conflictos. Multico recorre más de treinta escuelas primarias y secundarias anualmente, brindando otra herramienta para que los maestros de MMSD la utilicen mientras todos trabajamos por un mundo más empático. El viernes 8 de diciembre, los estudiantes de Multico actuaron para los estudiantes de 6to grado de Gillespie.

Welcome to VPM High School: Save the Date!

Hello Future Spartans and Families,

As we near the close of 2023, we begin looking forward to the 8th to 9th Grade transition process and welcoming you into the Vel Phillips Memorial community! We wanted to provide you with an important upcoming transition date:

8th to 9th Grade Transition Overview - Welcome to Memorial: This in-person event will provide an overview of the 8th to 9th grade transition and course selection process, as well as an opportunity to explore electives course offerings. It will also provide you with an opportunity to ask drop-in, program specific questions about each of the following: AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), DLI (Dual Language Immersion), Special Education, and English Language Learner programming.  This event will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  More information will be shared with you during the week of January 8th.

Nos acercamos al final de 2023, y ya estamos mirando hacia el futuro y al proceso de transición del 8º al 9º grado. Queremos darles la bienvenida a la comunidad de Vel Phillips Memorial e informarles sobre una fecha importante en ese proceso de transición 

Vistazo a la transición del 8º al 9º grado – Les damos la bienvenida a Memorial: En este evento presencial compartiremos información general sobre el paso del 8º al 9º grado y sobre el proceso de seleccionar clases, incluyendo las clases electivas. Las familias también tendrán la oportunidad de hacer preguntas sobre los programas: AVID (Avance a través de determinación individual, por sus siglas en inglés), DLI (programa bilingüe con español), educación especial, y programación para estudiantes de inglés como segundo idioma (ELL). Este evento se llevará a cabo en persona el jueves, 18 de enero de 2024 desde las 6:00pm a las 7:30pm. Se compartirá más información con ustedes la semana del 8 de enero.

COVID Information
If your student tests positive for Covid, please fill out the MMSD Student Screener (it is through IC so you will need your parent login. The school health office is unable to fill out the screener for you unfortunately). A contact tracer with the district will reach out and let you know next steps, like when the student can return to school. If you need masks or tests, we have them to give out at school. Just come to the office and we can have them ready for you.

Información sobre el Covid
Si su estudiante da positivo por Covid, complete el  cuestionario de evaluación de MMSD (se realiza a través de IC, por lo que necesitará que sus padres inicien sesión. Desafortunadamente, la oficina de salud de la escuela no puede completar el cuestionario por usted). Un rastreador de contactos del distrito se comunicará con usted y le informará los próximos pasos, cómo cuándo el estudiante puede regresar a la escuela. Si necesitas mascarillas o pruebas, las tenemos para repartir en el colegio. Simplemente venga a la oficina y podremos tenerlos listos para usted.
