PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE INFORMATION
We look forward to meeting with you about your child’s progress this year. Conferences will be held Wednesday, Nov 15, in the evening and all day Friday, Nov 17. There will be no school for students on Friday, Nov 17.
You will receive an email or phone call from your child’s 1st-hour teacher to schedule a conference. Gillespie staff will continue reaching out to you before November 15th and 17th to schedule a conference. A planning sheet is below to help you prepare for your child’s conference. Feel free to use this document to guide your conference conversations.
If you do not receive an email or phone call from your child’s teacher by the week of Nov 13 or need assistance reaching your child’s 1st-hour teacher, please get in touch with the Gillespie office at (608)663-6403.

Gillespie Title 1 Information and Compact
Title 1 is a state-administered program, meaning the U.S. Department of Education distributes funds to the WI Department of Public Instruction based on census data. DPI then distributes the funds to school districts again based on census data. MMSD distributes funds to qualifying schools based on the number of directly certified children enrolled.
Gillespie Middle School and the parents of students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) have developed a compact. The compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share responsibility for improved student academic achievement and how the school, parents, and students will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve Wisconsin’s high standards. Every child is on track to graduate, ready for college, career, and community. Gillespie is a place where children, staff, and families thrive.

SCHOOL BUS UPDATE
Dear Gillespie families,
As you may have experienced, maintaining routine bus transportation has been a challenge for families not only in MMSD but across the nation. After careful consideration, MMSD has made the decision to shift start and dismissal times at a number of schools beginning Monday, Nov. 6. Our school start and end time will not be impacted; however, route times will be. Updated bus route information will be available in Infinite Campus and on the MMSD website on November 1.
If you have questions surrounding this change, I encourage you to visit the district’s FAQ page for more information. We also encourage our community to continue to reach out to us with feedback about transportation/yellow bus service via our Let’s Talk platform on the MMSD website.

Join the Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory! Apply by Nov. 2
Are you interested in being a member of the newly formed Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory to share your experiences and perspectives on how to create healthier and safer schools in MMSD? We are seeking out students, family members, MMSD staff, and community members to join the newly formed Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory. The advisory will provide recommendations to the superintendent and BOE about creating healthier schools for students and staff and monitor the implementation of the district’s Wellness Policy. Dear Gillespie families,
The loss that our district and community experienced last week is one that will reverberate well into the future and that we all must bear the weight of going forward. For now, we are left to grieve, to draw solace from one another, and to summon the strength to move ahead collectively.
Persevering in the face of tragedy is not easy, but it is necessary and something that we endeavor to do together. To that end, I am writing to provide some resources that you may find helpful during this difficult time. They include guidance on how to discuss tragedy with your student and assist them in processing their emotions, as well as contact details for local and national organizations that help people find light in times of darkness.
In addition to shock, disbelief, and sadness, I know that the past week's events have left many of you and your students feeling angry, which is both normal and understandable. A life was cut short needlessly, and there is a collective desire to see justice done swiftly and decisively. In the wake of online chatter and social media accusations and rumors, I want to remind everyone that the Madison Police Department is working diligently to hold the parties responsible to account, and they are open to any and all help that anyone can offer. If you or your student have any information that may lead to the apprehension of those involved in this tragic incident, please call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014 or visit p3tips.com. All tips are anonymous.

MSCR / AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM UPDATES
Hello Gillespie Parents,
I hope you all are well; just a couple of reminders/updates for MSCR and SOH.
MSCR has officially started. I am still working on getting my buses, but I assure you that they will be coming into play shortly. Another REMINDER: MSCR is a drop-in program, meaning students can sign up for any club they choose to participate in with their ID number. Games for sports have officially started as well. The links below allow you to access dates, times, and teams.

MSCR ha comenzado oficialmente. Todavía estoy trabajando para conseguir mis autobuses, pero os aseguro que muy pronto entrarán en funcionamiento. Otro RECORDATORIO, MSCR es un programa sin cita previa, lo que significa que los estudiantes pueden simplemente ingresar, inscribirse en cualquier club en el que elijan participar, con su número de identificación.
