We are excited to announce a new addition to our weekly gazette. Each week, we will include a grade-level newsletter to inform you of what is happening in your student's classes for the current week and foreshadow what’s coming up.

THANK YOU to all of the families and friends of Gillespie for your generous donations to our Fussless Fundraiser. While we did not meet our lofty goal, we still raised a healthy amount of money that will be put to good use helping our students and school in and out of the classroom. We appreciate every family in the Gillespie Community and we look forward to bridging the gaps and helping Gillespie thrive!

GILLESPIE’S FIRST ANNUAL
“A GIFT TO GIVE CAMPAIGN” 

Throughout December, students will discuss the power of giving to others in PACK Time. They will talk about feelings associated with being kind and generous and giving and receiving gifts.

As a culminating experience, on December 19th, the “A Gift to Give” Store will be open for students to find holiday gifts for their family and friends to purchase with Gillespie Grizzly tickets.

The “A Gift to Give” Store will be a fun and rewarding activity with lessons to learn. Students will enjoy earning Grizzly Tickets for expected behaviors and giving and serving others while taking pride in spending tickets they’ve earned to provide special experiences to family and friends.

We need your help! We are working on donations from the outside community to stock our store. We ask that all donated items be new rather than gently used.  

Below are donation suggestions. Items can be dropped off in the school office from November 27th to December 13th during regular school hours.

PRIMERA CAMPAÑA ANUAL DE GILLESPIE “UN REGALO PARA DAR”

A lo largo de diciembre, los estudiantes dedicarán tiempo a discutir el poder de dar a los demás en PACK Time. Hablarán sobre los sentimientos asociados con ser amable y generoso y con dar y recibir regalos.

Como experiencia culminante, el 19 de diciembre, la tienda “Un regalo para regalar” estará abierta para que los estudiantes encuentren regalos navideños para que sus familiares y amigos los compren con boletos de Gillespie Grizzly.

La Tienda “Un Regalo para Dar” será una actividad divertida y gratificante con lecciones para aprender. Last week, our 7th and 8th grade DLI science students had the opportunity to engage with medical students from UW Madison. They learned about STEM and medical careers and were able to do a hands-on activity, learning how to suture! Thank you, Mr. Sanchez, for providing this opportunity for our scholars.

Hello Future Spartans and Families,

As we near the close of 2023, we begin looking forward to the 8th to 9th Grade transition process and welcoming you into the Vel Phillips Memorial community! We wanted to provide you with an important upcoming transition date:

8th to 9th Grade Transition Overview - Welcome to Memorial: This in-person event will provide an overview of the 8th to 9th grade transition and course selection process, as well as an opportunity to explore electives course offerings. It will also provide you with an opportunity to ask drop-in, program specific questions about each of the following: AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), DLI (Dual Language Immersion), Special Education, and English Language Learner programming.  This event will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  More information will be shared with you during the week of January 8th.

Vistazo a la transición del 8º al 9º grado – Les damos la bienvenida a Memorial: En este evento presencial compartiremos información general sobre el paso del 8º al 9º grado y sobre el proceso de seleccionar clases, incluyendo las clases electivas. Las familias también tendrán la oportunidad de hacer preguntas sobre los programas: AVID (Avance a través de determinación individual, por sus siglas en inglés), DLI (programa bilingüe con español), educación especial, y programación para estudiantes de inglés como segundo idioma (ELL). Este evento se llevará a cabo en persona el jueves, 18 de enero de 2024 desde las 6:00pm a las 7:30pm. Se compartirá más información con ustedes la semana del 8 de enero.

COVID Information
If your student tests positive for Covid, please fill out the MMSD Student Screener (it is through IC so you will need your parent login. The school health office is unable to fill out the screener for you unfortunately). A contact tracer with the district will reach out and let you know next steps, like when the student can return to school. If you need masks or tests, we have them to give out at school. Just come to the office and we can have them ready for you.

Información sobre el Covid
Si su estudiante da positivo por Covid, complete el  cuestionario de evaluación de MMSD (se realiza a través de IC, por lo que necesitará que sus padres inicien sesión. Desafortunadamente, la oficina de salud de la escuela no puede completar el cuestionario por usted). MSCR / AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM UPDATES

Basketball forms have been passed out. Students had until November 13 to turn in the forms to participate. Coach Jones held the first practice on Nov.13th.

Wrestling club is new and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday with Coach Martin. See Ms. Issis or Mr. Martin for the participation form.

School of Hope updates - Please let me know if your student is still looking for a tutor. I have some new tutors who would love to be placed with our students! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please get in touch with me.

ACTUALIZACIONES DEL PROGRAMA MSCR / DESPUÉS DE LA ESCUELA
