A new, convenient way for families to request an absence is through their Campus Parent Portal.

Beginning the first day of the second semester, January 29th, absences can be requested via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. 

If you have multiple children who will be absent, including students at different schools within the MMSD, this feature will allow you to select and request absences for multiple students at one time.

Entering an absence request is quick and easy, and can be done using your desktop computer or the Parent Portal app on your mobile device. Follow these simple steps:

  • Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
  • Select More from the Navigation area.
  • Select Absence Requests.
  • Fill in the required information, including the date and reason for the absence.
  • Submit your request.
  • Check out our quick guide graphic for a quick look at what steps to take. For more detailed instructions, visit this Absence Request Guide.

Our staff will be notified of the absence. While you may continue to request absences by calling your school’s attendance line, requesting absences via the Parent Portal is an easy way to process the request from your phone, computer, or tablet. 

Please note that even though an absence can be requested via the portal, it does not mean that the absence is excused until it has been reviewed by school staff. If you have any questions, please reach out to our main office.

Existe una forma nueva y conveniente para que las familias soliciten una ausencia a través su portal para padres Campus.
A partir del primer día del segundo semestre, el 29 de enero de 2024, las ausencias se pueden solicitar a través del Portal para padres Infinite Campus.

Reusable Waterbottles are Welcome in the Classroom

Studies have shown that students remember more and stay focused longer when they are hydrated. Drinking fountains throughout the building are equipped with bottle-filling stations. Please only send water bottles that can be closed tight and not spill on floors and desks; labeling with your student’s name is a good idea.

Please take the time to thank our drivers for being part of our students' daily lives with their unwavering dedication. Drivers are unsung heroes for navigating through traffic and weather while ensuring our students arrive at their destination safely!

Bikes For Kids! Deadline Feb 26

Madison is ranked as one of the top cities for biking in the United States. We have many miles of bike paths and protected lanes for bike travel in our city. For middle schoolers, a bike can mean independence. It allows young people to get places, including to and from school. Does your student need a bike? Our Gillespie community has an opportunity to sign up with Bikes For Kids to pick out a free bike this spring. Bikes For Kids is a national organization with a Madison chapter. They will assign us a Saturday and you will be able to go to their warehouse, 354 Coyier Lane, Madison, WI 53713, with your student/s and shop for a bike. If you are interested in receiving a bike, please provide the following information to Mrs. Vena Levesque at jvena@madison.k12.wi.us

  • Your student's email address
  • Grade your student is in
  • Race/ethnicity  
  • Your zip code
  • Your name 
  • Your email address or phone number
  • Your student's height in feet and inches

  • Will the bike be used to ride to school or to a community center?

This sign-up is open to any kids in our community, so if your Gillespie student has siblings, they can sign up, too. Once I have your information, I will share it with Bikes For Kids. As soon as they assign us a pick-up date, I will post the information in the school newsletter and communicate directly with you using the contact info you provide. From the Health Office

COVID Information
If your student tests positive for Covid, please fill out the MMSD Student Screener (it is through IC so you will need your parent login. The school health office is unable to fill out the screener for you unfortunately). A contact tracer with the district will reach out and let you know next steps, like when the student can return to school. If you need masks or tests, we have them to give out at school. Just come to the office and we can have them ready for you.

Información sobre el Covid
Si su estudiante da positivo por Covid, complete el  cuestionario de evaluación de MMSD (se realiza a través de IC, por lo que necesitará que sus padres inicien sesión. Desafortunadamente, la oficina de salud de la escuela no puede completar el cuestionario por usted). Un rastreador de contactos del distrito se comunicará con usted y le informará los próximos pasos, cómo cuándo el estudiante puede regresar a la escuela. Si necesitas mascarillas o pruebas, las tenemos para repartir en el colegio. Simplemente venga a la oficina y podremos tenerlos listos para usted.
MSCR / AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM UPDATES

Hello Gillespie Families,

I hope everyone is doing well! Here are some updates about MSCR and Schools of Hope.

No MSCR Program 2/8 or 2/15

The cooking club started on Feb 7. We are planning on what we will be cooking. 

Basketball games have officially started. We have a 2-1 record so far. Congratulations, Grizzlies, and keep up the excellent work! Parents need to accompany students who want to show support and come to the games.    

GSA is up and running during lunchtime. It's still okay for students to start a club.

Hola familias de Gillespie,

¡Espero que todos estén bien! Aquí hay algunas actualizaciones sobre MSCR y Schools of Hope.

El club de cocina comenzó el 7 de febrero. Estamos planeando lo que cocinaremos.

Los partidos de baloncesto han comenzado oficialmente. Tenemos un récord de 2-1 hasta ahora. ¡Felicitaciones, Grizzlys, y sigan con el excelente trabajo! Los padres deben acompañar a los estudiantes que quieran mostrar su apoyo y asistir a los juegos.

GSA está funcionando durante la hora del almuerzo. Todavía está bien que los estudiantes inicien un club.
