Last year, in our first year as Gillespie Middle School, our students worked together to decide our school values. They decided on PERSEVERANCE, ACHIEVEMENT, COMMUNITY, and KINDNESS, which are known as our P.A.C.K. values. Each month, teachers nominate students who they feel have been exceptional examples of our PACK values. Here are the September “Leaders of the Pack.” Congratulations, students!

El año pasado, en nuestro primer año como escuela secundaria Gillespie, nuestros estudiantes trabajaron juntos para decidir cuáles son los valores de nuestra escuela. Land Acknowledgment Ceremony

On the afternoon of October 25, we will honor the Ho-Chunk Nation’s rich history, culture, and presence in our school and community with a Land Acknowledgement Ceremony. Our school building is built on the sacred ancestral land of the Ho-Chunk People. We are honored to have The Little Priest Singers, a southern/Ho-Chunk family drum group, perform.

We are committed to deepening our understanding of Indigenous history inside and outside the classroom. Our school will continue to grow and build upon our partnerships with the Ho-Chunk Nation and all First Nations.

El 25 de octubre por la tarde, honraremos la rica historia, cultura y presencia de la Nación Ho-Chunk en nuestra escuela y comunidad con una Ceremonia de Reconocimiento de Tierras. FAST FOOD DELIVERIES - DOOR DASH

There has been an increase in fast food and door-dash deliveries to Gillespie for students. Student food deliveries are not permitted as this is a school safety risk, with students opening up doors for deliveries. We ask for your cooperation and for you to speak with your child about this safety hazard.

Share Your Voice - Join the Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory! - Apply by Oct. 18

Are you interested in being a member of the ongoing Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory to share your experiences and perspectives on how to create healthier and safer schools in MMSD? We are seeking out students, family members, MMSD staff, and community members to join the Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory. The advisory will aim to provide recommendations to the superintendent and BOE about creating healthier schools for students and staff and support the implementation of the district’s Wellness Policy. There will be four meetings this year held on 10/23, 12/11, 2/12, and 4/23 at the Holtzman Learning Center from 5:30-7:30 pm. Apply by filling out the Interest Form, (English, Spanish) by Friday, October 18th.

Estamos buscando estudiantes, familiares, personal de MMSD y miembros de la comunidad para que se unan al Consejo Asesor de Bienestar del Superintendente. El consejo tendrá como objetivo brindar recomendaciones al superintendente y a la BOE sobre cómo crear escuelas más saludables para los estudiantes y el personal y apoyar la implementación de la Política de Bienestar del distrito. Este año habrá cuatro reuniones que se llevarán a cabo el 23 de octubre, el 11 de diciembre, el 12 de febrero y el 23 de abril en el Centro de Aprendizaje Holtzman de 5:30 a 7:30 p. m. Presente su solicitud completando el Formulario de interés (Inglés, Español) antes del viernes 18 de octubre.

The Fall Break is approaching. Many of you may be celebrating Thanksgiving. If you need assistance with your holiday celebration, the Goodman Community Center is offering Thanksgiving Baskets for a limited number of families. MMSD families are offered registration starting on October 7th through October 23rd at 5pm. If you are interested please register quickly, starting on October 7th. The instructions are in this registration link and are in English and Spanish. Please read the instructions carefully. You will receive a postcard from the Goodman Center with your pick up date and time and you will need to pick the basket up at the Goodman Center on the east side of Madison.

Saturday, October 12th- Cross Country Meet @ Sennett Middle School. All students who turned in their Tuesday reports are eligible to participate. The bus leaves Gillespie at 8 am and will return at 11:30 am. 

Monday, October 14th - Soccer play-off pt.1 and home volleyball game vs. Spring Harbor.

Wednesday, October 16th- Soccer play-off pt.2.

Friday, October 18 - Field Trip to Screaming Acres. Permission slips were sent home and are due October 17th

Saturday, October 19th - Soccer tournament. Details will follow.
