§483.95-Training Requirements
What you need to know: CMS made changes to the guidance for §483.95 Training Requirements. 


F940-Training Requirements
  • Adds new guidance for the stem requirements for all training tags.
 
 
F941-Communication
  • Adds new guidance for communication.
 
 
F942-Resident Rights Training
  • Adds new guidance for training related to Resident Rights and Facility Responsibilities.
 
 
F944-QAPI Program
  • Adds mandatory QAPI program training.
 
 
F945-Infection Control Training
  • Adds new guidance for training on infection control.
 
 
F946-Compliance and Ethics Training
  • Adds an annual training requirement for organizations with five or more facilities.
 
 
F947-In-Service Training for Nurse Aides
  • Adds new guidance for training for nurse aides.
 
 
F949-Behavioral Health Training.
  • Adds new guidance for training related to Behavioral Health.
 

Action for facilities:
  • Explore methods for determining and verifying staff competencies. This may include, but is not limited to such things as the use of skills checklists, return demonstration of skills, skill camps, incorporating skills with monthly meetings, etc.
  • Engage direct care staff in evaluating effectiveness of current training programs and in development of new training content as needed.
  • Revise training programs when the resident population changes, there is staff turnover, and/or changes are made to the physical environment.
  • Develop a process to make needed updates to the training program based on changes to the center’s facility assessment as specified at §483.70(e).
  • Remember that training should support current scope and standards of practice and include learning objectives and evaluation criteria.
