Who's On Third?

That was the big question at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as the penalties bestowed on Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso piled up. After accepting the third place trophy, the Spaniard was stripped of his 100th career podium. Fourth place finisher, George Russell, moved up to take the prize... but it would be short-lived for the Mercedes driver.

If you didn't watch the race, here's how the saga unfolded. Alonso got off to a fabulous start – quickly edging past pole sitter, Sergio Perez, to take the lead into the first corner. As Fernando led the pack around the perilous Jeddah circuit, race officials were scrutinizing video of his car's position on the starting grid. Turns out, after finishing the formation lap, he maneuvered his Aston Martin slightly to the left of the starting box... and was out of place at "lights out." Although the infraction provided no advantage, it brought the race leader a 5-second penance he'd have to serve on his first pit stop.

Saudi Results

When Alonso boxed, his pit crew flew into position and froze – holding their breath for five excruciating seconds before executing a lightning fast tire swap. But the damage was done. Perez moved into the lead, and Max Verstappen, who had started 15th due to his own run of bad luck in Qualifying, was slicing his way through the field. In the end, the two Red Bulls would take the checkered flag - first Sergio, then Max, then, fifteen seconds later, Fernando. After accepting his third place trophy, Alonso was hit with an additional 10-second penalty. Why? While serving the original violation during his first pit stop, a member of his crew accidentally bumped the car with the rear jack. That's all it took to rob the Aston Martin driver of his prize. But the team appealed with a flurry of video evidence and other documentation... and ultimately, the ruling was overturned. Fernando was back on third.

Saudi Arabian GP Pool Winners

Well, well, well... it appears we have some familiar faces in lofty perches. Kim "Scuderia" Crawford, who placed P2 in last year's Pool, is once again showing her F1 savvy with an 80-point P1 finish. Close on her heels was Marc "Marco Polo" Lemaire, who also got his share of altitude on last year's race podiums. Although tied points-wise with Thunder Bay newcomer, Devon "Dsokoloski" Sokoloski, Lemaire bumped her to P3 with a closer Tie Breaker estimate. Congratulations to our winners.
