Dear FA Families,

To survive requires the ability to persevere in difficult circumstances. Every man, woman, and child has experienced this as we have endured the global pandemic beginning in 2020 that continues to date.

However, there are other struggles and illnesses that have been fought long before and since the arrival of this global pandemic. Cancer is a battle that many have experienced in their lifetime. Most of us have a personal connection to cancer. My own father developed leukemia in 2015. Thankfully, after successful treatment, he has been cancer-free for five years.

My name is Roy Boyd. I am a junior at Frederica Academy and a member of its golf team. In honor of those who have fought, and continue to fight, against cancer, as well as their loved ones, my golf teammates and I hope to raise funds for cancer research and outreach. In addition, we seek your help to support the First Tee of the Golden Isles, an organization that teaches children leadership through the game of golf.

This spring, we are conducting a fundraiser, “Drive for Life," to benefit three non-profit organizations important to all of us. Each non-profit will receive one-third of all proceeds raised:

  1. The Cancer Care Center at Southeast Georgia Health System (Brunswick Campus)
  2. The Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Division in Jacksonville
  3. The First Tee of the Golden Isles
We selected these recipients because cancer has affected all of our lives and because of our collective desire for more young people in Glynn Glynn to have the opportunity to play a game that unites all of us.

We are seeking sponsors for various levels of participation:

  • Maximum Pre-Paid Performance Gift ($1,500)
  • Performance Pledge (Amount TBD - $1,500 Maximum)
  • $1,000
  • $500
  • $250
  • $100
  • $75
  • $50
  • $25
  • Other Donor Designated Amount

Please click on the "Online Gift via FA Website" button below to make a one-time online gift. Your gift may qualify as a tax deductible charitable donation.

The Performance Gift (the most fun option) is where the amount of your donation will depend on the posted scores (pars, birdies, eagles, etc.) of our top four scoring players after each 18-hole season match. Your total donation amount will be calculated in late April at the end of our golf season. Donations for the Performance Gift will occur once the season has ended unless you opt to pre-pay the maximum amount before or during the season. If the value earned by our team exceeds $1,500, you will not be asked to pay more than $1,500.

Please click on the "Online Performance Pledge" button to make a pledge commitment, which will not need to be fulfilled until the completion of our golf season in May.

Our golf season is comprised of about twenty matches or invitational tournaments, one regional regional tournament, and one state championship tournament. If you are interested in receiving updates on how the team is doing throughout the season, you can sign up for tournament updates or monthly updates. Tournament updates will be received after each tournament has concluded, and monthly updates will be received at the end of each month during the season. Click here to email me if you are interested in receiving these updates.

The top four Frederica player scores from each match will be used to calculate the pledge as follows: $1 per par; $5 per birdie; $10 per eagle; $20 per albatross (two strokes on a par 5); hole-in-one $100; win our regional championship $50; win our state championship $100.

The Frederica Academy golf team is seeking its 13th straight state championship title this year. We will have a very strong team with a good chance of going the distance. It promises to be a very competitive and exciting season!

Please click on the buttons provided below to access our 2021 preliminary golf tournament schedule and a sample of the spreadsheet that we will send you after each match. You may register and choose your preferred way to donate.

Our home matches will be played on the Retreat Course kindly provided by Sea Island. We hope you will come out and follow us when we play at home.

Thank you for taking the time to consider being a part of this important initiative. Please email me should you have questions.

Sincerely,

Roy J. Boyd III
