FA Spirit Day
Varsity Girls Basketball
We opened up our first region game of the year on Tuesday night defeating Pinewood at home. Pinewood has a history of being a solid, fundamental team. We were down 6-2 after the first quarter and were having a hard time scoring. During the second quarter, Tiana Jackson got two easy baskets to get things moving. Going into halftime, we were up by one. The Knights came out in the third quarter taking the lead, 25-17. We were able to hold onto the lead in the fourth quarter. We fought hard the whole game. I was proud of our effort for all four quarters. Maddie Baldwin, Margaret Spiers, Ruby George Pruitt, and Katelyn Sitz did an awesome job on the back row of our zone defense. Pinewood struggled to get the ball down low to convert easy baskets because of our defense. Sophia Price and Tiana Jackson hit a few threes in the third quarter to give us a boost. Tiana was our leading scorer with 23 points. We are looking forward to improving over the next few weeks!

Varsity Boys Basketball
FA 51 | Pinewood Christian 42

It was a great start to the 2021 region basketball season with a win over a tough Pinewood team. Pinewood is a very physical team with athletic kids. We controlled the game until the third quarter, where we let them get within two points. We regained a bit of a cushion with some big baskets and ended up with defensive stops that led us to the win. Xavier Collier led us in scoring with 15, followed by Eli Fritchman with 12, Jacob O'Connor with 10, William Jobe with 6, Jordan Triplett with 4, and Bryce Reilly with 4. Our team will get better as we go along. One thing we will do is play hard.

FA 49 | St. Andrews 63

This was a setback for our team as we never got much going versus St. Andrews. They jumped on us early and we just couldn't get close enough to make a difference. Unfortunately, I felt like this was a game we didn't have the focus to finish with a win. We missed 13 fouls attempts and three of those were front ends of a 1-1. We had opportunities with open looks all over the floor including layups, and we just didn't finish. It's very disappointing; however, I hope we learn from our mistakes and can have a better game next time we play them at home. Willam Jobe led us in scoring with 13, followed by Thomas Jackson with 11, and Jordan Triplett with 9. Thomas is a newcomer coming over from McIntosh Academy, and he had a good game. Welcome to the program, TJ.

We play at Savannah Christian this Wednesday. The game time is 7:30 p.m. To watch via livestream, download the Boxcast app on any Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon Firestick device and search "Savannah Christian Preparatory School" to find the SCPS channel.

FA Swim
The Frederica Academy Middle School and Varsity Swim teams had a combined meet this past Saturday at our home pool. Due to cold weather, the meet was indoors, which was warmer but led to a very loud meet with a lot of people all working hard to keep their distance. Despite the challenges, our swimmers did a great job. A special shout out to our fifth graders, some of whom were swimming in their first meet ever. Great job, Jack Dorminy, Johnny McQuade, Turner Rentz, Cannon Schlegel, and Elliot Sullivan.

The meet kicked off with our Varsity Girls Relay Team swimming a 2:32.02 in the 200 Medley Relay. This was a great time that earned Holly Lewis, Katie Eckert, Ashley Prokop, and Gillian Sullivan fifth place. From there we had Spencer Sullivan take fifth place in the 200 Free with a State Qualifying time, followed by State Qualifying times in the 50 Free by Andrew Kaminer, Ashley Prokop, and Katie Eckert. Jimmy McQuade placed third in the 50 Free, improving his time by over three seconds and earning a trip to the State Meet. Rounding out the State Qualifying swims, JJ Briggs placed eighth in the 100 Breast while Andrew Kaminer placed fourth in the 100 Fly, and Ashley Prokop placed eighth in the 100 Back, earning Personal Best times.

Several other notable swims include JJ Briggs, who had a great swim in the 50 Free, improving on his time by almost a full second and just barely missing the State time by .02 seconds. I’m sure he will easily qualify at the next meet. In the 50 Free, Elliot Sullivan improved his time by almost two seconds, and Ava Smith by over four and a half seconds. Johnny McQuade, Jack Dorminy, Cannon Schlegel, and Laila Gilbert all had great swims in the 100 Free, with Laila improving her time by almost a full second. Turner Rentz placed sixth in the 50 Back and Gillian Sullivan placed tenth in the 100 Breast. Gillian beat her personal best time by almost seven seconds, with Turner Rentz beating his by an amazing 28.5 seconds. In the 50 Breaststroke, Elliot Sullivan placed fifth in the boys race, and Maggie Dorminy and Ava Smith placed seventh and eighth in the girls race, with Maggie improving on her time by over three and a half seconds and Elliot by over 12 seconds!

There are a couple more meets before the State Meet. Great job this past weekend, Knights, and good luck in the next few weeks before State!
