The Middle School and Varsity Swim teams attended the Glynn County Winter Invitational Meet this past Saturday. It was the last meet of the regular season before the State Meet. It was a great meet with some very competitive teams. We only had nine swimmers because of COVID and a couple of other conflicts, but the nine who were there swam well.
Our girls relay team of Ashley Prokop, Gillian Sullivan, Cammie Pope, and Ava Layne Hennessy placed 4th in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and 5th in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, posting solid times in both.
In the Individual Events, we had several new state qualifying times and personal best times. Gillian Sullivan bested her time by half a second to earn a spot swimming the 100 Free at the State Meet.
Cammie Pope posted an impressive time in a very difficult 500 Yard Freestyle race that also earned her a spot in that event at the State Meet.
Johnny McQuade added a State event by placing 5th and qualifying in the 50 Breast.
Jimmy McQuade tried a new event and added the 100 IM to his already impressive list of events for which he has qualified to swim at the State Meet.
Case Mitchell also tried a new event and qualified for State on his first try at the 100 Free.
Andrew Kaminer added two more events to his State qualifiers as he placed 6th in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 Butterfly.
Spencer Sullivan improved his time by half a second in the 50 Free and an impressive 2.5 seconds in the 100 Free.
We still have two more weeks of practice before we head to the Olympic Pool at Georgia Tech on January 29. Although not everyone will be heading to the State Meet, we will continue to practice hard the next couple of weeks to stay ready for next year’s season. It has been a great year so far, and we look forward to the start of another one in only about 9 months.
Go Knights
