Four varsity swim team members participated in the Camden Icy Invitational on Saturday, January 16. The name of this meet was appropriate as it was outside, and the temperature was in the high 30's. Spencer Sullivan, Cammie Pope, Ashley Prokop, and Gillian Sullivan represented Frederica Academy and did an amazing job. Competing against large public schools such as Lee County, Camden County, and Wayne County can be daunting because of the sheer size of their varsity teams.
Ashley Prokop took 7th and Cammie Pope took 9th in the Girls 50-yard Freestyle. Gillian Sullivan took 11th place and shaved almost 2 seconds off her previous time. This is the most popular event in a swim meet and always has the most swimmers competing.
Spencer Sullivan and Cammie Pope both took 8th place in the 100-yard Freestyle, each earning points for the team. Gillian Sullivan took 4th in the 100-yard Breaststroke, shaving 1.5 seconds off her previous time. Ashley Prokop dominated the 100-yard Backstroke, earning 1st place in the event.
We are extremely proud of these four swimmers for showing up and putting forth their best effort in the coldest of conditions. Their dedication is appreciated! This season has been challenging with COVID-19, but our Varsity and Middle School Swim teams have been amazing.
The State Swim Meet is on January 30 at Georgia Tech. We have nine swimmers from the varsity and middle school teams who have qualified in individual events. The varsity team has one more meet this Thursday in Waycross.
Go Knights!
