FA Swim Team

The middle and varsity swim teams began their season last week at the YMCA in Brunswick. We are looking forward to hosting the FA Invitational Swim Meet on November 5. Please let Nurse Pope know if you would like to volunteer.

We will be featuring one swimmer each week in recognition of their hard work and effort. This week we are highlighting James Paul. James is in ninth grade and this is his first week on the swim team. James has shown us that he is dedicated to the team and to his teammates. In just a few days, James has mastered several difficult skills and is working on a few advanced techniques. We are excited to have James on the team!

If you are interested in joining the swim team or finding out more about our teams, please contact Nurse Pope.

Varsity Cross Country

The FA Cross Country team rode across the river to the College of Coastal Georgia to compete in the Region Championship. Both girls and boys ran well, as the girls finished tied for first and the boys secured the runner-up spot.

On the girl's side, new runners supported veterans Maggie Dorminy and Kaitlyn Sunderhaus. Maggie finished first with a PR of 21:54. Kaitlyn was third at 23:31. Mary Ford Fitzjurls was fourth at 23:51. Brianna Kohlhoff was 13th at 26:54, and Ry Hoffnagle finished at 34:08. Maggie, Mary Ford, and Kaitlyn made All-Region.

On the boy's side, Daniel McHugh set a PR of 19:06 and finished seventh. As a team, the Frederica boys finished second to Westminster, which had each of the top six finishers in the race.

Max Byrd placed ninth with a time of 19:55, Noah Falken was 10th at 20:01, and Elijah Howerton finished 11th in 20:10. Jacob Leonard rounded out Frederica’s top 5 at 18th overall with a time of 22:17. Trey Walbridge (26th; 26:00) and Jack Alston (31st; 28:57) also competed for Frederica.

Both sides qualify for the State meet to be held in Macon on October 29.

Go Knights!

Middle School Tennis

The Frederica Middle School Tennis Team finished the 2022 season as Champions in last week’s Glynn/Camden Middle School Tournament.

In the Region tournament first round, FA defeated St. Marys Middle 3-2. Match winners were Kelly Offner in Singles, Ella Barker and Ava Smith in Doubles, and Elyse Erwin and Ava Wyrick in Doubles.

I was especially proud of Cooper Lamb in Boys Singles and Nik Reinshagen and Jack Tronolone in Doubles. All three of them started the year having never played a match and by the end of the season, all three were very competitive in all their matches.

The Final round of the Region Championship was a tough and exciting win against St. Francis. We fought hard and the bounces went our way, winning 3-2. St. Francis had beaten us twice during the year and for most of the championship match, it looked like they were going to win for the third time. Frederica quickly took a 2-1 lead after wins by Kelly Offner in Singles, and Ella Barker and Ava Smith in Doubles. The Doubles team of Elyse Erwin and Ava Wyrick were down 2-7 and the Boys Doubles team of Nik Reinshagen and Jack Tronolone were also in a tight battle. Slowly, both matches headed toward tiebreakers and we were fortunate to win one of them. The match winners were Kelly Offner in Singles, Ella Barker and Ava Smith in Doubles, and Ava Wyrick and Elyse Erwin in Doubles.

The Region tournament is always one of the most fun events each year. I was so proud of the teamwork and how each FA player brought their best game forward when it counted.

I also want to thank Adam Elsharkawi and Ali Brown-Winans for volunteering their time to help me on the court this year, their patience and experience were greatly appreciated by the team.

The FA Middle School Tennis Team represented the school very well.
