On September 26, Varsity Cross Country took the interstate to Statesboro and competed against Portal, Pinewood Christian, First Presbyterian, and the host, Bulloch Academy.
Maggie Dorminy (23:10) won her first varsity race, and Kaitlyn Sunderhaus (25:20), still nursing a knee injury, placed second.
We love the effort out of Maggie, who is a tough runner, but don't sleep on Kaitlyn either. She’s still banged up from soccer and finding her vibe this season. Our girls were way in front today.
We need three girls to come out and race with us to assure qualification at State later this month.
The Boys Cross Country team finished second, led by Daniel McHugh (19:59) and Elijah Howerton (20:26), closely followed by Max Byrd (21:43), Noah Falken (22:10), and Jacob Leonard (23:11).
As the team begins its countdown to Region and State, training has intensified. Luckily, temperatures have begun to turn.
As a group, I feel like we are conditioned, but October is going to be about training, not just aerobic fitness. We’re learning how to be tougher and raise that aerobic threshold. It's a rebuilding year, but I'm happy with the ways this team has come together. This is a young group with a chance to win at State multiple times over the years.
Go Knights!
