Frederica MS Girls vs. Risley MS Girls - November 8, 2021
The season kicked off with a great win at Risley. During the first half, the Knights focused on strong defense (Nyah Forrester, Lauren Dunn, Mary Ford Fitzjurls, and Kate Walker) and held Risley to no score. Frederica’s offense had several opportunities but was unable to convert. Near the end of the first half, Scout Brummett had a great pass to Libby Certain, but the play was determined to be offside. The first half ended 0-0.
During the second half, several adjustments were made to the lineup, and the Knights came out ready to score. Aggressive play following a goal kick by Risley allowed Scout to score quickly only three minutes into the second half. Nyah had a great defensive stop after a Risley player had a breakaway with seven minutes remaining, and Risley was unable to score. Mary Ford had several strong throw-ins to propel the team forward. She also had an assist to Scout to score a second goal with about a minute left in the game. The game ended 2-0.
Frederica MS Girls vs. St Marys MS Girls - November 10, 2021
The Middle School Girls Soccer team kicked off its first home game with a strong win. During the first half, the Knights focused on strong defense (Nyah Forrester, Mary Ford Fitzjurls, Lauren Dunn, and Kate Walker) and held St. Marys to only one goal. Frederica’s offense began quickly with a goal by Scout Brummett only 90 seconds into the game. Nyah had a great defensive stop with four minutes expired, resulting in a corner kick for St. Marys that resulted in no score. Another free-kick by St. Marys with six minutes expired yielded, again, no score. Mary Ford took a long kick with seven minutes expired and it hit the mark. Catherine Dunn had a strong attempt at the goal with seven minutes left in the first half, but it went just wide. She was not deterred. With three minutes remaining in the half, Catherine scored on a strong throw-in from Mary Ford. St. Marys was able to score on a free kick with seconds ticking away in the first half. Score at half 3-1, Frederica leading.
During the second half, the Frederica team continued to focus on offense. Libby Certain had a good shot at the goal which was stopped by the St. Marys goalkeeper. Again, Libby looked for opportunities and in a scrum in the box, was able to score a goal through the goal keeper’s hands with ten minutes remaining. Sofia Gegg also scored with six minutes remaining on a breakaway which the goalie could not stop. She also had several other attempts at scoring during the remainder of the half. Scout scored again with four minutes remaining. Frederica’s goalkeeper, Clare Reid, had several great stops to aid the defense in the second half. The game ended 6-1.
