The Varsity Girls Basketball team continued the regular season schedule play on Tuesday versus The Covenant School of Jacksonville. The Lady Knights got off to a fast start, outscoring Covenant 21-6 in the first quarter. FA went on another scoring run and took a 37-14 halftime lead. The girls played hard from start to finish and had balanced scoring from Margaret Gandy (25 points) and Tiana Jackson (20 points). The final score was 65-38. Middle School Boys Soccer

Frederica Boys Middle School Soccer played two games last week. The boys stepped on the field facing Jane Macon and Glynn Middle School. Both teams proved to be great competitors. The boys challenged Jane Macon; however, they were unable to successfully move down the field and place one in the back of the net. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. Yet, when faced with Glynn Middle, the boys were ready for this opponent. The team set up a defensive stance and repeatedly repelled their advances. At half the boys stood at 0- 2. The game ended in a loss of 0-6, but these games proved that these FA boys belong on the same field and possess outstanding talent.

Frederica MS Girls vs. Jane Macon MS Girls - November 14th, 2022

The Frederica Middle School Girls Soccer team hosted the Jane Macon Eagles on Monday, November 14. The offense for both teams started off strong. Jane Macon had a free kick less than two minutes into the game, but the ball went wide right of the goal. At four minutes in and again at six minutes into the first half, FA had two strong corner kicks but no result. Catherine Dunn took a throw-in and turned it for a goal shot, again wide of the goal. Again, at eight minutes remaining in the half, Catherine had a nice shot and a good stop by the Jane Macon goalkeeper. With less than four minutes left in the half, Catherine intercepted a punt by the Jane Macon goalkeeper, went straight to the goal, and scored! Knights 1-0.

Both teams were ready to play in the second half. With three minutes expired, Jane Macon shot the ball from near mid-field and scored, the ball traveling well over the Knights goalkeeper's head. The Knights offense kept up the pressure and had four shots on goal by both Catherine Dunn and Sofia Gegg, but the Jane Macon goalkeeper stopped all those attempts. With seven minutes remaining, the Eagles went up 2-1 on another chipped shot over the Knights goalkeeper’s head. The Knights did not give up. Maddie Lavallee had two good stops from Jane Macon players. With less than five minutes remaining, the Knights tied the game 2-2 with a strong boot into the goal by Sofia Gegg. Although the game ended in a tie, 2-2, the Knights played their best game of the season. The defense was strong, and several players hustled throughout the game including Libby Certain, Lauren Dunn, Emma Kate Widener, Kate Walker, IslaMae Mitchell, and Chloe Barker.

Glynn Middle hosted the Frederica Knights on Wednesday. During the first half, Frederica got off to a good start with several shots on goal by Sofia Gregg. As the first ten minutes expired, Glynn Middle picked up their offensive. Goalkeeper Maddie Lavallee had a nice save, and Lauren Dunn and Emma Kate Widener had several nice defensive stops.

The second half was an evenly matched game with offensive drives by both teams. The Knights and the Hurricanes had opportunities for scores but the defense of both teams played strong, and both goalkeepers had great stops keeping the score tied. The game ended 0-0.

Go Knights!

Frederica Academy Swim

It was a very chilly morning in Tifton on Wednesday, November 16, as our Varsity and Middle School Swim teams participated in the outdoor meet. There was a little grumbling, but our students put forth their best efforts and the results were phenomenal. This was a big meet and our overall Varsity team and Middle School team both placed third.

Our Varsity Girls Medley Relay started the meet with a strong second-place finish. This was a huge win for us as we shuffled which swimmers would swim certain strokes at the last minute. Katie Eckert swam backstroke, Caroline McGregor swam breaststroke (a first for her), Ashley Prokop swam fly, and Maggie Kaselak swam freestyle.

Our Middle School Boys Medley Relay also took second place. JJ Simons, new to the team this year, swam backstroke, Clay Sproule swam breaststroke, Gabe Albright swam fly, and Mason Hall ended the relay with freestyle. It was a great race.

Our swimmers also performed amazingly in individual events. Varsity swimmers, Ashley Prokop and Jimmy McQuade, placed third in the fifty freestyle, Darshap Patel placed seventh, Caroline McGregor placed eighth, and James Paul placed tenth. In Middle School, Clay Sproule placed fifth in the fifty freestyle and Gabe Albright placed sixth. Varsity swimmer, Jimmy McQuade, placed first in the 100 freestyle and Caroline McGregor placed eighth. Middle School swimmer Gabe Albright placed fifth in the 100 freestyle and JJ Simmons placed ninth. Ashley Prokop won first place in the 100-yard backstroke, defeating the second-place finisher by 13 seconds! Clay Sproule placed sixth in backstroke and Hollis Hunt placed ninth. Jimmy McQuade won his 100-yard breaststroke race and Clay Sproule, Gabe Albright, and Mason Hall finished in fifth, sixth, and eighth place.

The varsity girls finished off the day with an impressive second-place finish in the freestyle relay with Ashley Prokop leading off, followed by Maggie Kaselak, Katie Eckert, and then Caroline McGregor swimming anchor. The Middle School Boys Team swam the very last event of the day and finished third in the freestyle medley. Clay Sproule was our lead-off swimmer, followed by Eli Brock, JJ Simmons, and Gabe Albright swimming anchor.

We did have a few major improvements on individual strokes. Darshap Patel shaved an impressive seven and a half seconds off of his fifty freestyle. Eli Brock took an amazing 19 seconds off of his 100-yard freestyle, and Peter Vinci took almost five seconds off of his 50-yard freestyle while swimming a little under the weather. Maggie Kaselak and Katie Eckert, new to the team this week, were lifesavers in scoring the large points for the relays!

This past Friday evening, our Middle School Swim team competed against 16 schools in Savannah’s Fall Classic. Representing our girls, Ava Smith took five seconds off her time in the 100 Free. Kamaya Quarterman continues to improve with a new time of 40.38 in the 50 Free. Our boys had a blast cheering for each other with two team entries in the 200 Medley Relay. Peter Vinci led with Backstroke, Hollis Hunt in Breaststroke, Elliot Sullivan tackled Butterfly, and Eli Brock finished with Freestyle. Gabe Albright represented the Knights in the 100 Free with a new time of 1:19.35. JJ Simmons, Elliot Sullivan, Mason Hall, and Peter Vinci continued to work hard in the 50 Free with PR’s, earning points for the boys. Johnny McQuade finished the night with 50 Breaststroke earning a time of 49.72. Congratulations to our Frederica Academy Middle School Boys placing 7th in the Fall Classic and 10th place overall for our Middle school team. Keep up the good work!
