A Message from the Athletic Director

Congratulations to Coach Brandon Derrick, his staff, and the entire football team for winning the Region Championship this past Friday night in a convincing win against St. Andrew's. We are now on to the State playoffs as the 6th seed. We earned a bye and will travel to Deerfield-Windsor on Friday, November 18. More information will be shared once all of logistics of the game are finalized.

The FA Swim team held its annual FA Swim Invitational this past Saturday, and I was once again impressed by the organization and the overall running of the event. I wish to extend a big thank you to Mike Irish, Nikki Pope, and Jessica Albright for putting on such a great meet. Congratulations to our swimmers for their dedication and efforts.

Our Middle School Soccer teams continue with contests today at Lanier Field against St. Francis. The matches are at 3:30 p.m. for the girls and 4:30 p.m. for the boys. On Wednesday, we are back home versus Needwood. The times are the same as today.

There will be a Middle School Boys Basketball meeting in coach Wilson's classroom at 10:00 a.m. this Wednesday. If you are interested in playing Middle School basketball this winter, you should attend.

Come out and support our Middle School Knights! I look forward to seeing you soon.

Middle School + Varsity Swim

Frederica Academy hosted the FA Invitational Swim Meet this past Saturday at the YMCA in Brunswick. Over one hundred swimmers attended from five different varsity and middle school teams.

The FA Middle and Varsity Swim teams had a great day. The varsity boys 200-meter freestyle relay team, consisting of Jimmy McQuade, Darshap Patel, James Paul, and Jacob Leonard placed first. The middle school boys 200-meter freestyle consisting of Elliot Sullivan, Clay Sproule, Johnny McQuade, and Gabe Albright placed third.

For our middle school individual swimmers, Gabe Albright brought home third, fourth, and fifth place finishes in the 100 IM, 50 freestyle, and 50 backstroke. Johnny McQuade placed fifth in the 50 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 freestyle. John Jeffrey Simmons, new to the swim team this year, placed sixth in the 50 backstroke. Clay Sproule placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke. Eli Brock shaved an impressive 21.93 seconds off his 50 freestyle and 13.26 seconds off of his 100 freestyle. Newcomer, Hollis Hunt, placed seventh in the 50 backstroke. Sixth grader Kamaya Quarterman set personal records in all three of her events, shaving 14.57 seconds off of her 100 freestyle. Ava Smith, recently back in the pool after tennis season, has shown much improvement so far in her diving and techniques.

A big thanks to the varsity swimmers that swam on Saturday, even with the homecoming dance being rescheduled for that evening. Ava Layne Hennessy had a great meet. She placed second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. Gillian Sullivan also had a great day placing second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Darshap Patel shaved 16.05 seconds off his 100 freestyle, placing fifth. Jimmy McQuade brought home two fourth-place finishes and a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke, and 50 freestyle. Newcomer, James Paul, placed fourth in the 100 freestyle. Senior, Jacob Leonard, new to the team last week after finishing cross country, is a welcome addition to the team, swimming anchor on the freestyle relay and showing great promise in the pool.

Our teams would like to thank the parents, student volunteers, and staff volunteers that gave up their Saturday morning to help us time and run the event. We could not have done it without all of their help!

The FA Swim team travels to Tiftarea on November 16, for varsity and middle school competitions. If you are interested in joining the swim team, please see Nurse Pope for more information! We are excited about a great year!

Go Knights!

Middle School Girls Soccer

Frederica MS Girls vs. Risley MS Girls - October 31, 2022

The Middle School Girls Soccer team kicked off their first home game with a strong win. During the first half, the Knights focused on strong defense (Emma Kate Widener, Liz Beckham, Lauren Dunn, and Kate Walker) and held Risley to no goals. Frederica’s offense began quickly with a goal from Sophia Gegg.  A few minutes later Catherine Dunn scored a goal. The offense had a few more strong attempts at the goal in the first half but could not convert. Sophie McGlaughlin had a shutout in the first half.  At half-time, the score was 2-0.

During the second half, Maddie Lavallee played in the goal and had a quick save.  Frederica continued to focus on offense and added two more goals in the second half.  Eliza Veal and Catherine Dunn scored the second-half goals with assists from Gracelyn Grantham and Sophia Gegg. The Lady Knights defense held strong and did not allow many attempts on goal.  The game ended 4-0. Knights win!

Frederica MS Girls vs. St. Mary’s MS Girls - November 2, 2022

The Middle School Girls Soccer team traveled to St. Mary’s for their first away game of the season. During the first half, St. Mary scored two goals, one from a free kick and another one within the goal box.  Frederica had a few chances in the first half, unfortunately, none of the attempts resulted in a goal.

During the second half, St. Marys scored another goal making it 3-0.  The game ended with St. Marys winning 3-0.

Go Knights!
