Frederica Academy hosted the FA Invitational Swim Meet this past Saturday at the YMCA in Brunswick. Over one hundred swimmers attended from five different varsity and middle school teams.
The FA Middle and Varsity Swim teams had a great day. The varsity boys 200-meter freestyle relay team, consisting of Jimmy McQuade, Darshap Patel, James Paul, and Jacob Leonard placed first. The middle school boys 200-meter freestyle consisting of Elliot Sullivan, Clay Sproule, Johnny McQuade, and Gabe Albright placed third.
For our middle school individual swimmers, Gabe Albright brought home third, fourth, and fifth place finishes in the 100 IM, 50 freestyle, and 50 backstroke. Johnny McQuade placed fifth in the 50 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 freestyle. John Jeffrey Simmons, new to the swim team this year, placed sixth in the 50 backstroke. Clay Sproule placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke. Eli Brock shaved an impressive 21.93 seconds off his 50 freestyle and 13.26 seconds off of his 100 freestyle. Newcomer, Hollis Hunt, placed seventh in the 50 backstroke. Sixth grader Kamaya Quarterman set personal records in all three of her events, shaving 14.57 seconds off of her 100 freestyle. Ava Smith, recently back in the pool after tennis season, has shown much improvement so far in her diving and techniques.
A big thanks to the varsity swimmers that swam on Saturday, even with the homecoming dance being rescheduled for that evening. Ava Layne Hennessy had a great meet. She placed second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. Gillian Sullivan also had a great day placing second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Darshap Patel shaved 16.05 seconds off his 100 freestyle, placing fifth. Jimmy McQuade brought home two fourth-place finishes and a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke, and 50 freestyle. Newcomer, James Paul, placed fourth in the 100 freestyle. Senior, Jacob Leonard, new to the team last week after finishing cross country, is a welcome addition to the team, swimming anchor on the freestyle relay and showing great promise in the pool.
Our teams would like to thank the parents, student volunteers, and staff volunteers that gave up their Saturday morning to help us time and run the event. We could not have done it without all of their help!
The FA Swim team travels to Tiftarea on November 16, for varsity and middle school competitions. If you are interested in joining the swim team, please see Nurse Pope for more information! We are excited about a great year!
Go Knights!
