Frederica Academy 65 | Bulloch Academy 57
This was a big game for us for several reasons. First, it was Senior Knight, so we wanted to celebrate the five seniors we have on our team and send them out on a great note. Next, we wanted some momentum going into a very long week of three region games in five days. We got off to a great start in this game with all five seniors starting the game. They came out on fire and got this game under control early. I could not be prouder of this fine group of young men. They came out playing extremely hard and hit some big shots, including Camden Truett hitting two big threes right off the bat. I was proud of all the boys and how they played early. From there, it was a tough game. Both teams have good players and played extremely hard. We didn’t let up the gas after halftime, and it was a lot of fun to watch how well we executed and played really good defense.
We were led in scoring by Eli Fritchman with 22 points, followed by Xavier Collier with 14, William Jobe with 10, Jacob O’Connor with 6, and Camden Truett with 6
I’d like to thank our five seniors for everything they’ve done not just this year but over the last four years. They have been loyal, worked very hard, and because they love the game of basketball, I will always appreciate everything they’ve done. Seniors: Xavier Collier, Eli Fritchman, Kenny Quinn, Mikey Roy, Camden Truett.
Frederica Academy 61 | Pinewood Christian Academy 40
We followed up a very tough game against Bulloch Academy with an even better game versus Pinewood Christian Academy. This may be the best game we played all year when it came to execution, hard play, rebounding, and our defense. Holding them to 40 points was a good indication of how the night went. We took great care of the ball with limited turnovers. You have to be able to defend, rebound and not turn the ball over when you're on a road game. We were able to do all three and because of that, we had an excellent evening. I thought we frustrated Pinewood with our defense as well as being able to run our offense in the half-court. When we had opportunities to score in transition, we did so without turning the ball over or trying to make the home run play.
We were led in scoring by Eli Fritchman with 17, followed by William Jobe with 12, Jordan Triplett with 11, Xavier Collier with 10, and Jacob O’Connor with 9.
Frederica Academy 81 | Trinity Christian 73
Anytime you go on the road to play at Trinity in Dublin, you’re going to be in a tough game. We beat Trinity last year in the region championship game, and so we knew they were out for redemption. It was one of those games. Not much defense was being played on either side, which I was not happy with, but we never trailed in this game even though they kept cutting it close. We had a 10 point lead going into the half, but I had a feeling that we just hadn’t been playing very well, especially defensively.
Trinity can be a very explosive team when they want to score points, and it seems like they have no problem doing so. They kept the pressure on us, but we handled it extremely well and were able to get out with a great win on the road. We did, however, give up too many three-pointers by one of their guards, and their big post was able to get easy baskets in the half-court. That will have to change for us to have a chance to repeat with a region championship. Even though I may sound a bit irritated by our defense, anytime you can go on the road, especially at Trinity, and get a win you’ve done something good.
We were led in scoring by Willam Jobe with 23, followed by Jacob O’Connor and Eli Fritchman with 18, Xavier Collier with 11, Jordan Triplett with 6, and Bryce Reilly with 5.
It was a tough week for us, and the team handled it extremely well. With COVID and all the quarantines throughout the region teams, we got the short stick and ended up traveling to 4 out of our 6 remaining region games. Our players did a great job putting that behind them and just playing. We ended up going 4-2 in the region and because of that, we are the second seed going into the region tournament this week. Once again we will play our old foes Bulloch Academy as they are the third seed team. This Thursday at 5:00 p.m., we will play Bulloch Academy at Pinewood Christian Academy for the chance to play in the championship game, which will be on Saturday. Be sure to look online to buy tickets that are offered by Pinewood Christian Academy for the tournament. We look forward to seeing everyone in Belleville for the tournament.
Go Knights!
