Cason Cavalier Wins Chipping Contest!

The Annual Frederica Academy Chipping Contest was held Tuesday at the Miracle Practice Facility at Sea Palms. It was a double-elimination, head-to-head tournament where players were seeded from the beginning and worked their way up through the brackets by winning a contest to 5 points. Cason Cavalier started as a 6 seed and remained undefeated through to the finals where he faced off against Jackson Byrd, whom Cason defeated in the second round. Jackson had worked his way through the losers bracket and faced off against Cason, having to defeat Cason twice to win the tournament. Jackson won a thriller match, 3-2, to even things up, and it all came down to one last chip to decide the championship. Cason hit a great bump and run to about 15 feet on a 50-yard pitch and it just edged out Jackson, who had hit it to 20 feet. It was a super competition and a big win for the team captain. Cason will live on in history as his name will adorn the plaques in the Frederica hall of winners in Coach Willis's room for all eternity. Congratulations, Cason!
FA Knights Golf Team Wins vs. Camden

The Frederica Academy Knights Varsity Golf team played a 9 hole match against Camden on Thursday at Retreat. The Knights won the match by a score of 153-179. The B team also was victorious over Camden with a 167 total. The low medalist for the match was a tie between Travis Cavalier and Jackson Byrd with a 37. Individual scores were as follows:

Frederica A Team

Jackson Byrd 37
Travis Cavalier 37
Aarnav Nath 39
Thomas Henderson 40
Roy Boyd 40
Ramie Shingler 40

Frederica B Team

Parker Jules 40
Cason Cavalier 41
Edward Stephens 42
Eli Brickman 44
Joshua Manning 48
Blake Holloway 51

Coach's comments: Although we were able to win, we did not have our A games today. Jackson Byrd was hitting the ball well but couldn't seem to get the distance right as he went over several of the greens early and could not get up and down. He was 2-over through 5 and went birdie-bogey-birdie on his next three to get it to one over, so kudos to him for hanging in there. Travis Cavalier had it two-under through 3 holes but suffered a double bogey on the fourth after missing a short putt. He managed to play in from there at one over. He's been hitting it well, longer, and under control. It's great to see his improvement over last year. Parker Jules was steady and is hitting it well. She missed a short putt on the 9th to just miss breaking 40. I think she's capable of doing that every time.
FA Knights Varsity Golf Team Wins Cup Match vs. Stratford and Augusta Eagles

The FA Varsity Golf team won the 14th annual Cup Match versus Stratford and Augusta Eagles on Saturday and Sunday at Retreat. The match is Ryder Cup style individual match play with a point for the front, a point for the back, and a point for the overall for each match. Frederica defeated Stratford by a total of 30-5, and Frederica defeated Augusta Eagles by a total of 28.5-6.5.

Coach's comments: I thought we played well overall. We took the lead early in most matches and that left the other teams trying to fight their way back. Several of the players would have been under par for the nines had we played stroke play, and I think our team scores would have been well under 300. Jackson Byrd was very solid in the first position, taking on their top players, and Aarnav Nath and Thomas Henderson both hung in there on some tight matches. Roy Boyd and Travis Cavalier both hit it well both days to save a couple of wayward shots. All in all, it was a win and we retained the cup for another year. Good job by the team!

Varsity Girls Soccer
Tuesday @ Camden 0-0

We had our second away match of the season at Camden County High School, where we drew 0-0. I was very proud of the girls and their effort, mentality, and organization, which led to us getting a result against a good 7A soccer program. Hopefully, this can serve us well when we play better opposition in the future.

Friday @ Westfield 2-0

We won our first region match 2-0 at Westfield this Friday. I was happy with the girls' application and persistence to get an away result, especially given some key absences from our team. I look forward to building off these performances this week in our upcoming region matches against Robert Toombs and Trinity Christian.

Lost 0-3

This was our first game, and it looked like a first game. There was a lot to like. We created a lot of goal-scoring chances, and we had some stretches of good possession. I liked that our team always works and competes from start to finish.

Friday @ Westfield
Won 7-0

This was a great performance with a very strange ending. Westfield lost power and all lighting with 4:30 left in the first half. With a 7-0 lead, we were declared winners as the power did not return.

We again created a lot of chances, and the team was ready to play from the opening kick-off. I was pleased with that mentality, especially after a three-hour drive.

Goals:
Ty Pappalardo (2)
Eli Fritchman
Charlie Runyan
David Garcia
Thomas Jackson
Max Byrd

Shutout:
Grant Offner

Frederica Academy visited Pinewood for a match on Thursday, March 11. Frederica swept both Boys and Girls matches, 5-0. It was great to get another region win against Pinewood. Singles and Double teams both played great, and we were especially glad to get Doubles wins against Pinewood, which usually positions their best players in doubles. The Tennis Team's next match is this Thursday against Citizens Christian at Retreat Tennis Center at 3:30 p.m.
