Frederica Academy track runners had a super day at the Region meet on Wednesday. Both Andrew Kaminer and TJ Jackson are Region Champions. Andrew won the 3200 and 1600 in a well-planned race and never looked back. His time for the 3200 was 10:54 and 5:15 in the 1600. TJ had an equally well-planned race. He took the lead on the second lap and won easily in a time of 2:12.

FA Varsity Tennis Teams Win Region!

It was a great day for the FA Tennis Team, which qualified 12 of its 14 players and took home titles in Girls Singles, Boys Singles, and Girls Doubles at the Region Individual Tennis Tournament held last Tuesday. Each of the Region teams entered 3 boys and 3 girls singles players as well as 2 boys and 2 girls doubles teams to determine Region Champions. Players finishing in the top 4 received invitations to the State Individual Championships held in Macon on April 27-28.

FA singles players had a great day of tennis, qualifying 4 of 6 singles players, with both Adam Elsharkawi and Merrill Been winning the Region Singles Titles. Kate Walbridge finished as runner up and Dylan McHugh qualified in 4th place. Doubles teams played strong as well, with all 4 FA teams qualifying for the State Tournament. Bekah Brooks and Rebecca Tiller finished as Region Champions, while Greta Johnston and Ali Brown-Winans took home 4th place. Frederica Boys Doubles teams of Andrew Kaminer and Jaxon Grotz finished as Region Runner ups and David Weaver and John Alden Beimler took 3rd. We were fortunate to host the Region Tournament at the College of Coastal Georgia, and for us to play so well made it a special day for our team.

FA Knights Varsity Golf Team Wins Region!

The Frederica Academy Knights Varsity Golf team won the region tournament at Brunswick Country Club last week with a score of 293. Bulloch Academy was runner-up with a 335, and Pinewood was third with a 351 total. Jackson Byrd was the low medalist with a 2-under par 70. Jackson, along with Jack Roberts, Aarnav Nath, Roy Boyd, and Thomas Henderson from Frederica made the All-Region Golf Team. The other All-Region player was Griffin Garvin from Bulloch Academy. Parker Jules from Frederica won the plaque for Low Ladies Medalist for the Region. Individual Frederica scores were as follows:

Jackson Byrd (70)
Jack Roberts (71)
Aarnav Nath (73)
Roy Boyd (79)
Thomas Henderson (80)

Alternates:
Travis Cavalier (77)
Parker Jules (80)
Cason Cavalier (83)

Coach's Comments:
This was a good outing for us. It was very windy all day, so I figured the scores would be high, but we were just a couple of strokes off of our season low. It was Jackson Byrd's first tournament win for Frederica. Even though he's won a lot of tournaments on his own, it's nice to get your name in the record books as one of what will surely be a lot of high school wins for him throughout his career. He hit the ball well on the front. He was smashing the driver. He hit the best drive I've ever seen on the 290-yard par 4 7th which was playing into quite a stiff wind. He landed the ball on the green about 10 feet short of the hole, flying it all the way there in the air. I've seen guys hit that green before, but never into that kind of wind. He could have gone much lower but missed several short putts on the backside. Still, he birdied the 18th, which sealed the win for him, just one better than Jack Roberts, who was playing in front of him.

Jack also had one of those days that could have been really low. He had it 2-under through 7 and seemed to be cruising, but he bogeyed three of the next four. A couple of birdies coming home got him under par and gave us that one-two punch that you might expect from him and Jackson. Both of those guys have so much firepower, it is fun to watch.

Aarnav Nath had a great day, too. We've all been waiting for him to go low, and he did it. He also birdied 18 and had several more opportunities which he just couldn't quite convert. But, he shot 35 on the back and set his record low for us. He's capable of beating that, and he's only a freshman. So, we are full of young talent this year. Thomas Henderson and Roy Boyd were both disappointed with their rounds, but that's golf. They have both had several good outings lately, and sometimes you come out and it is just not there.

Kudos to Parker Jules for winning the Ladies Low Medalist for our Region. She's had a good year. I'm also proud of Travis Cavalier for hanging in there with a strong round. He's going to be a huge factor for this team in the next three years. I'd like to give a big thanks to the Brunswick Country Club for being great hosts to us and for all the parents for helping out and cheering on our kids.
Knights Varsity Golf Team Wins vs. Camden

The Frederica Academy Knights Varsity Golf team won a match against the Camden Wildcats at the Osprey Cove Golf Course in Camden County by a score of 152-155. Griffin Blount of Camden was the low medalist with a 34. Individual Knights scores were as follows:

Edward Stephens (36)
Ramie Shingler (37)
Jack Roberts (37)
Eli Brickman (42)
Blake Holloway (43)
Parker Jules (45)
Josh Manning (45)
James Cruikshank (48)

Coach Roberts' Comments:
The FA Knights Golf team traveled to St. Marys to play the Camden Wildcats on a beautiful afternoon. The weather was beautiful and the course was in great shape. It seemed like perfect conditions for a strong performance by the Knights. Solid performances from Edward Stephens and Ramie Shingler carried Frederica to a 152-155 victory.

Edward had a stress-free round going through 7 holes, carrying a -1 score to that point. An errant tee shot on 8 led to a double bogey, but a bounce-back birdie on the last hole brought that subtle smile right back on Edward’s face. Edward’s even-par score of 36 led the Knights. He said before his round while standing on the first tee, “I figured something out with my swing coach!” Well, he sure was right.

Ramie Shingler also played extremely well throughout his round. Starting his round with 3 straight pars, the even-keeled Shingler slipped up on the par 3 4th with a bogey. An unexpected bogey on the par 5 6th hole put him at +2 for the day and in need of a spark on one of the last three holes. Ramie saved his best for last and went out in style with a birdie at the last hole, posting a solid round of 37.

I was also impressed with Eli Brickman’s round. Eli posted a 42 but didn’t get off to the best of starts. However, a birdie on 5 and a nice near chip-in birdie on the par 5 6th hole seemed to give Eli some confidence heading into the difficult stretch of holes 7-8, now sitting at +3. A green in regulation on 7, combined with a two-putt left him in a good position with just two holes left. Eli finished his last two holes at 3-over par, leaving some disappointment. But, he played very well overall and has a lot to be proud of.
FA Varsity Golfers in Action vs. Hilton Head

Some players from the Frederica Academy Varsity Golf team played their final match of the year against Hilton Head Prep and Hilton Head Christian at the Savannah Harbour course. The Knights shot a 324 total, finishing behind both Hilton Head teams whom both shot a 305. Max Green from Hilton Head Christian was the low medalist with a 70. Individual Frederica scores were as follows:

Edward Stephens (77)
Parker Jules (80)
Eli Brickman (81)
Blake Holloway (86)
James Cruikshank (97)

Coach's Comments:
This was a great last outing for us. Our top 4 all had great days. Edward Stephens continued his hot play. He had two birdies and seven bogeys with no big numbers on the card. He is only 6-over in his last 3 matches. He has come on strong here at the end of the season, and I believe he is going to be one of our top guys over the next two years. He has the ball under control now, and he works hard at his game. He has a great attitude as well and is very competitive and focused. I am just so impressed with him.

Parker Jules, Eli Brickman, and Blake Holloway all shot career lows for FA. Both Eli and Parker had putts on the last hole to break 80, which they had never done. Unfortunately, they didn't go in, but those were both super efforts. Since we were playing SCISA rules due to Hilton Head being the host, Parker had to play from the men's tees which is about 600 yards longer than she normally plays. To tie her career-low from those tees on a course she's never seen is super. Eli parred 5 of the last 6 to finish off a good round and break his all-time Frederica low by 3 shots. Eli and Blake had also never seen the course before. Blake had a rough start and finish, but had it going in the middle with a string of pars and some good saves. Blake has had record-breaking scores in his last two outings. All of this points to good things in the future for everyone.

It was James Cruikshank's last Frederica round and unfortunately, he struggled at the beginning. He finally figured it out at the end and parred 6 of the last 7 holes. He's been great to have on the team. He's been a leader and everyone just loves his attitude and personality. He is a great supporter of the team and is going to come back to play in the alumni match in future years. I'm hoping to partner with him and am looking forward to those good times.

(4/22) W 10-0 @ Bulloch Academy

I thought the guys competed very well and implemented our style of play in both matches. Overall, we are on an upward trajectory and hope we continue our good form into some crucial matches this week to get the best seed possible for our State Tournament.

The FA Lady Knights Soccer team won all three of its region matches last week, winning 3-0 and 1-0 versus Bulloch Academy and beating Robert Toombs 10-0 this past Saturday. I was pleased with all three of the performances and glad that we were able to check off one of our season goals by clinching another Region Championship. We hope to continue our good form when we play St. Andrews in Savannah and finish off our regular season on Thursday in Bluffton versus Hilton Head Christian Academy. Please come out and support!

Middle School Golf
Last week, the FA Middle School Golf team lost to Coastal Homeschool, Hancock Day School, and Savannah Christian. The scores were 169, 169, 176, and 184. The course was nice, but the weather was a bit breezy and that combined with not knowing the course proved to be challenging for our players. They’d admit that they didn’t do their best either. Scores for FA were as follows:

Jayden Roberts (41)
Robert Stephens (45)
Thomas Sams (48)
Cullen Kazimir (51)

Nonetheless, we will compete for the championship and hope the boys play like we all know they are capable of playing. I’ve enjoyed being around this group of boys. They all have great personalities and have a solid skillset that will continue to get better with continued work. Most importantly, they are all good kids, and I thank the families for allowing me the opportunity to work with them. The future is bright!
