A Message from the Athletic Director

Athletics have been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. Football, basketball, hockey, baseball, golf, track, all sports.  All of them have given me amazing moments playing them, coaching them, or watching them. I'm sure many of you can relate to similar connects to athletics.

This past Friday gave me another wonderful memory I won't soon forget. Winning the Tiftarea football game on the road in the last few seconds with some perfect play-calling and execution is what turned this old sports nut into a 14-year-old all over again. I think Coach Derrick thought I lost my mind when I was jumping up and down hugging him and yelling at the top of my voice. It's moments like these that I am very thankful for the opportunities in my life to be around the profession I chose many years ago. It wasn't a playoff game. It wasn't a region game; nor was it a win against a rival. It was a Friday night high school football game that all of us including the coaches and players will remember and talk about for years to come. We love athletics, and that game reminds us all why we do. Thank you coaches and boys for adding to my love for the competition we see almost every night with FA athletics. Thank you Coach Derrick for allowing me to enjoy the moment.

Go Knights!

Valwood

Starting off the season with a great 5-1 record, the Lady Knights hosted their hardest competition yet with the reigning State Champions Valwood School. The Knights fell short in the first set, 13-25, but did not lose focus. In the second set, the Knights went back and forth with Valwood after rallying from a seven-point deficit to take the lead late but unfortunately were unable to hold on and lost 22-25. With the energy building, the Knights were able to win the third set 27-25. Taking Valwood for the first time to four sets, the Lady Knights ran out of steam in the fourth set losing 12-25. The team was led by Ryann Hankey with six aces, Ashley Prokop with six kills and four blocks, Grayson Caine with ten digs, and Katie Eckert with nineteen assists. Even after the loss, the team has so much to be proud of and look for redemption later in the season!

Heritage Christian Academy

The Lady Knights came out strong, sweeping Heritage Christian Academy 3-0 after their tough loss on Tuesday and improved their record to 6-2. Starting off a little slow, the Knights pulled it together in the first set to win 25-18. They kept that momentum going to go on to win the second and third set, 25-16 & 25-10. The team was led by Tiana Jackson with four kills, Briley Johnson with five kills, and Mildred Reeves with five digs. The Knights look forward to back-to-back home games on Tuesday and Thursday.

Middle School Football

After a long summer of practice and preparation, the FA Middle School Knights rolled in to Pinewood Christian Academy on Thursday afternoon ready to play their season opener. Defensively, it was a really good showing only giving up 8 points on a long TD pass on the opening drive of the game. Case Mitchell did an outstanding job anchoring the defense from his nose tackle position causing trouble for the Pinewood offense all game long. Also, defensively we saw Eli Middleton, playing in his first game ever, have an outstanding game at outside linebacker.

Offensively, the Knights had an outstanding game! Stanton Beverly led the way for the Knights with over a 100 yards on the ground, and Conner Ellis scored three touchdowns for the Knights. Jaylen Baldwin had a great game at receiver catching a TD pass on the second play offensively for us. Cannon Schlegel, on his first carry ever as a Knight, took a jet sweep around the left end for a 40-yard TD run. For our special teams, Luke Smith in his first football game, was perfect on his five extra point attempts. Well done, Knights!

Go Knights!

Middle School Volleyball

Wednesday, the Knights Middle School Volleyball Team participated in a Jamboree at Glynn Academy. Everyone got a chance to play and learn how it feels to be on a volleyball court. In our first set against Jane Macon, we lost 13-25. Our second match was against Risley Middle School, and while the Knights were in the lead at one time, we ended up losing 19-25.

Go Knights!
