A Message from the Athletic Director
If you were at the varsity football game on Friday night you witnessed what happens when a team comes together, plays extremely hard, executes a game plan, and plays for each other. There is no doubt the Knights were ready for this game. When you want something as bad as they did, not much can stop you. The credit goes to all of the kids on this team and our coaches who have been battling low roster numbers, many times not having enough to practice with a full 11 on 11. Every team in the south endures the heat and humidity this time of year but not many are facing what we face each day and each game. We are in shape, physically and mentally. Coach Derrick and his staff are to be commended for having our boys ready to play a worthy opponent with a team of true athletic warriors. I want to thank our team and our coaches for everything they do for Frederica Academy. I am so proud of them and look forward to watching their progress this season.

Tuesday night our varsity volleyball team will host Savannah Classical Academy at 5:00 p.m. Thank you to everyone who responded quickly and enthusiastically to the volunteer sign-up invitation; we are fully staffed.

Our first Middle School Football home game will be this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. as our Knights play hosts to Bethesda Academy. We have a great group of young men, led by Head Coach Ryan Lawless, and Assistant Coach Dom Clinch. We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday evening under The Oaks. Special thanks to Laurie Watson for recruiting gate and concession volunteers for the game.

Our terrific varsity boys and girls Cross Country teams are running in the Jekyll Island Invitational this Saturday. The boys run at 7:30 a.m., and the girls run at 8:05 a.m. We have a group of talented runners this year, and it will be exciting to follow them throughout their season to the State meet.

I look forward to seeing you at all of our athletic events this week!

Go Knights!

Varsity Football Recap

The Brunswick News

The Frederica Academy Knights jumped right back into gear Friday night, defeating the Valwood Valiants in their season opener, 27-6.

In the team’s first game of the season, the Knights proved that 16 graduating seniors wasn’t going to stop the 2020 GISA Class 3A runners-up from playing dominant football.

An unfortunate chain of events led to Frederica’s first turnover when quarterback Thomas Veal’s pass bounced off of his receiver’s helmet and into the hands of the defensive backs. Valwood was able to capitalize off the turnover and put six points on the board.

From then on, it was all Frederica Academy.

The Knights would go on to score the next 27 straight points by capitalizing off of four Valwood turnovers.

Making up for his previous error, Veal connected with wide receiver Bryce Reilly for one of the four Knights touchdowns. The three other touchdowns came from star running back Jordan Triplett through the course of the night.

With only 21 players suited up to play for Frederica, head coach Brandon Derrick was happy with his player’s performance and knew that playing at home to start the season was huge for his players.

“(The) kids have gotten better and better every week,” Derrick said. “They stayed in the means of what we asked for.”

Some of the Knights never stepped off the field, but that didn’t affect the team at all as they rode the momentum of the crowd and defensive performance to the 27-6 victory.

Next week, the Knights will travel to Savannah to take on the Calvary Day Cavaliers for their first road test of the season.
Varsity Volleyball Recap
Monday 8/23 vs. HCA

The Lady Knights Volleyball team bounced back after a tough loss capturing their first win last week (25-14, 24-26, 25-3, 25-17) against Heritage Christian Academy. After falling in the second set, Anna Counts served an incredible 19 points in a row to keep the Lady Knights rolling in the 3rd set. The girls kept the momentum and secured their first win of the season.

Tuesday 8/24 vs. Memorial Day

The Varsity Volleyball team faced their biggest rival in their region last week at home. After falling in the first two sets, 23-25 and 15-25, the girls were not letting them take another set. The Lady Knights came with a balanced attack offensively, as five different players registered a kill. Junior, Ryann Hankey, and eighth grader, Clare Reid led the way in that category, with sophomore, Katie Eckert setting them up with 15 assists, helping her team add another win to the record. The girls took the game to 5 sets, winning the last 3 sets, 25-13, 25-23, 15-8.

Thursday 8/26 vs. St. Andrew's

On Thursday, the Lady Knights faced their regional opponent St. Andrew's. This was the same team we faced during our first game of the season. With revenge on their minds, the Lady Knights threw their hearts and souls into the game with the first two sets very close. The teams were neck in neck with the scores being 22-25 and 23-25. Coming back so strong after their first go around, the team ended up losing the 3rd set but not without a fight. Their will and determination has the team very excited for the future!

We have a game on Tuesday at home against Savannah Classical Academy and hope to see everyone there!

Go Knights!

Middle School Football Recap
The Frederica Knights traveled to Savannah on Saturday morning to face off against Savannah Country Day. Despite facing larger opponents, the Knights were tied 7-7 going into half time. The Knights' defense recovered one fumble (James Barger) and had one interception (Jaylen Baldwin) before Country Day started pulling away in the second half.

On the offensive side of the game, Grant Moore led the way with a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to Colt Howes. Howes had three receptions all for 15+ yards, accompanied by Baldwin with two receptions, and Davis Durkin with a key first down reception to keep one of the Knights' final offensive drives alive.

Mary Ford Fitzjurls was 2/2 on PAT attempts helping the Knights stay in the game. A third quarter kick return by Country Day gave them the lead, which they held until the end of the game. The final score of the game was 14-28 with SCDS on top. Although it wasn't the outcome we had hoped for, there were many highlights to build off of and all around great effort from our football team.
