Manna House Community Service Project:  FRIDAY

Frederica Academy will stage a school-wide community service project in support of Manna House on Friday, October 12.

Manna House provides meals for the homeless in Brunswick and the surrounding area, and the school will provide sandwiches to serve all of Manna House's patrons.

Click HERE to read an article which recently appeared in The Brunswick News commemorating Manna House's 35th Anniversary and demonstrating how important donations are to its continued success.

The Upper School Service Council is raising money to help underwrite the cost of the sandwich bread. Upper School students will assist with delivering the sandwiches to Manna House. Lower School students will make the sandwiches after Morning Meeting that day.

Families interested in supporting this project are asked to donate peanut butter, jelly, and sanwich bags. Items can be dropped off with Mrs. Holt or with Mrs. Lavallee.

RenWeb Becomes FACTS:  FRIDAY

For the past several years, Frederica Academy has used RenWeb as its School Information Management System (SIMS) provider.

On Friday, RenWeb will have a new name. A company named FACTS acquired RenWeb four years ago in order to provide schools with the tools they need to manage every aspect of the educational experience in a combined, secure, and easy-to-use system. Since the acquisition, FACTS has been combining its services in a meaningful, methodical way. Now its taking another step in the process and becoming a single brand-FACTS in order to provide schools like Frederica Academy with the best products and services possible.

We do not anticipate any noticeable changes with the new name. We share this update in the spirit of avoiding confusion as the RenWeb name gets replaced with FACTS.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® will stroll onto the College of Coastal Georgia's campus for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event, hosted by the College of Coastal Georgia Student Health Center, is part of The International Men's March to stop, rape, sex assault, and gender violence. Male participants will walk around campus in high heels or shoes, starting at the College's Miriam and Hugh Nunnally Health and Science building, through the academic commons areas, to the Campus Center and back. The Walk is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious problem of sexual assault and domestic violence against women. A supply of heels and shoes will be available for participants.

Middle School "Gold Ribbon Week" Homecoming

L-R: Eli Fritchman, Josh Meadows, Katie Eckert, Mark Landis, Ryann Hankey, Reese Hankey, and Michael Richardson

Connor Landis
Last Wednesday, the Middle School was honored to have a guest speaker, Mark Landis, speak at its assembly about his daughter, Connor, and the effects that childhood cancer not only had on their child but their entire family and community.  Frederica Academy created the Connor Landis Frederica Scholars Award, a prestigious, merit-based award offered each year to a new, rising sixth grade student. The award was established to honor the memory of Connor Landis, a Frederica student who passed away in June 2009 after a valiant nineteen-month battle with brain cancer.  Past Connor Landis Award recipients were recognized as well.

We are proud to announce that the Middle School used the school's Homecoming celebration to participate in "Gold Ribbon Week" to support Childhood Cancer Awareness efforts and were able to raise over $300!  All proceeds will go to the medical funds of the children of Glynn County who are currently battling cancer.  GO KNIGHTS!

Third Grade Field Trip to Rapunzel Performance

Third Grade students and parent chaperones traveled to the Historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick on Friday to watch a performance of Rapunzel.

Second Grade Star Students

Second Grade Star Students Eliza Frazier and Lily Heller interviewed each other in front of their peers last week.

Lily Heller, Mrs. Schneider's STAR of the week, was excited to have her mom, Jennifer Heller, as her guest reader.

Eliza's Mom and Dad, French and Anne Frazier, visited Second Grade on Wednesday and read a book to the class together.  Mrs. Frazier brought the students a sweet treat.

Braden Drew also had a guest reader in Mrs. Albright's class. His Nonna, Pat Drew, read to the class.

Kindergarten STEM Activity

Our Kindergarten students had an especially challenging STEM activity on Friday! Their materials were simple: tape, straws, scissors, and a pumpkin. They were then given the task of building a stand for their pumpkin. After much collaborating, structures were built. Although not all succeeded in supporting the pumpkins above the ground, the children were able to identify ways to improve upon their building projects in the future. We are very proud of all of these young, creative thinkers!

Pre-Kindergarten SSI Fire Station Field Trip

Pre-K celebrated the end of Fire Safety Week by going on a field trip to Saint Simons Island Fire Station #2. Students explored the inside and outside of a fire truck among other safety, life-saving vehicles. Many thanks to the parent volunteers who joined the students and teachers on this hands-on learning experience!
