A Message from the Director of Admission |
As the 2018-2019 school year has found its rhythm and students have settled into patterns, expectations, and preparations for upcoming exams, the Admission Office is already gearing up and looking ahead to the 2019-2020 school year as we work to meet, greet, and admit new FA Knights. We are indeed off to a fast and glorious start.
Earlier this month, we hosted a Realtor Open House welcoming dozens of area realtors to tour our campus and learn more about Frederica Academy for their clients relocating to the Golden Isles. Later that same week, we hosted an Open House for prospective parents, inviting visitors to meet FA parents, administrators, and experience an engaging campus tour with Upper School student ambassadors.
Last Monday, nearly thirty prospective students from area schools chose to visit FA for the day during their Thanksgiving break. Visiting students spent a full day shadowing a peer FA student and experienced the highlights of student and academic life on Frederica's campus.
On Wednesday, in order to gain better perspective on how we as a school can grow and adapt to meet the dynamic needs of each graduating class, I had the privilege of joining with other administrators to sit down with Frederica's Young Alumni Council to hear how Frederica's mission to
maximize the potential of each student and to prepare him or her for college and adult life is
truly a mission in action. Following this insightful visit with some of Frederica's esteemed young alumni, I was able to reflect on my own time as a former Frederica student, current parent, and passionate administrator at Frederica Academy.
In the nearly 20 years since I was a Frederica student, so much continues to change to ensure we maintain the strongest curriculum in college-preparatory academics, the best and most dedicated teachers, and a student body that reflects a culture of passionate and engaged learners. Yet, the sentiments of the Frederica Academy student experience remain the same. Frederica is a family, deeply rooted, and committed to fostering a safe environment where students grow and learn to the best of their abilities, encouraged daily by faculty, staff, and administrators. Yes, they are prepared for college life and what lies beyond, but fully enjoy the experiences, excitement, moments, and memories of today.
So you may ask, "How can I help with the admission process?" The answer is simple: keep spreading the positive word about your child's unique experiences at Frederica Academy. When I ask prospective families how they heard about Frederica, the response is most often from FA parents and families like you! YOU are our greatest recruiters! As a reminder, we launched a referral program last year which provides a monetary incentive to current families that refer a prospect who enrolls as a Frederica Academy student. Please click here for more information.
The coming months will be spent talking with and touring prospective students and families with the goal of enrolling a strong group of future Knights. We hope you will encourage your friends to visit campus to learn more about our school and our mission to develop students in mind, body and spirit. Some ways you can engage are:
- Invite families to an event on campus. Frederica will host our Annual Jingle Bell Celebration and Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 6, which is open to all friends of the FA community. We will host basketball games over the next couple months as well as spring sports like baseball, soccer, golf, and tennis just around the corner. Also this spring, May Day, Grandparent's Day and Derby Day serve as wonderful opportunities to introduce guests to Frederica's community of students and families.
- Invite families to Open House Week. Open House week is just around the corner. Save the date for February 4-8 when we invite prospective families to hear directly from our students and teachers during question and answer sessions, tour the campus, and engage inside the classroom. Each day during Open House week will feature a different division of Frederica Academy including early childhood, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School.
- Invite prospective students to shadow. Shadow visits are offered to any prospective students in all grades. This is a great way for prospective students to meet faculty and current Knights and get a feel for campus life. Simply contact me to arrange a student visit.
- Invite them to tour campus. Private tours are offered regularly throughout the year. If a family is interested, encourage them to contact me at 912.638.9981 ext. 106 or via email at [email protected]. I am also happy to reach out to a prospective family directly if you would like to share the family's contact information with me.
- Bring a family to walk around campus with you. Sometimes, the best introduction is a stroll through campus, a walk on Happy Hall, or a visit to Friday's Lower School Morning Meeting. Our campus is always open to parent and student led tours, so feel free to bring a friend to see us! Simply check in with Mrs. Holt or Mrs. Lavallee to acquire the necessary visitor pass and access credentials.
Thank you for all you do to help make Frederica Academy an amazing part of our community!
Much FA love,
Director of Admission
Frederica Academy

Middle School Presents Childhood Cancer Check |
During the month of October, Middle School students raised money for children in the Golden Isles who are fighting cancer. Last Tuesday morning, the Student Council presented a check for $300 to Chris Busby, his daughter Lily, and his son Chase, who has just finished his last chemotherapy treatment and is in remission. The Busbys have helped raise over $18,000 for children fighting cancer in our community, and the Middle School was so excited to Go Gold in October to help this special cause.

Middle School November REACH Students |
Congratulations to the following students who were honored as the November REACH students at the Middle School Assembly last week:
Noah Falken - Sixth Grade |
Ruby George Pruitt - Seventh Grade |
Case Harrison - Eighth Grade |
|
Sixth Grade Global Studies Water Project |
In conjunction with their Global Studies class, 6th graders completed a water walk last week, filling large containers with several gallons of water and walking with the heavy load about 1/4 of a mile around campus. After learning about children who complete similar walks of much greater length each and every day, the 6th graders were able to reflect and empathize with diverse people in the developing world. After analyzing current event articles, viewing selected video resources, and listening to passages from
A Long Walk to Water, the class left for the Thanksgiving holiday thinking more deeply about the plight of others.

Congratulations to
Sophie McGlaughlin
for being the first 3rd grader to complete her Xtramath.org Multiplication program!
She will now enter the
Division part of the program.
Well done, Sophie!
Many other peers are right

Kindergarten STEM Activity |
Kindergarten loves a challenging STEM activity! Last week, the children were given two pieces of paper, tape, and scissors. Working in teams of two, they were asked to work together in making the longest paper chain possible. This was their best challenge yet! They talked, planned, and created terrific paper chains that stretched across the classroom!

A Jar Full of Compliments Leads to ... A Day Full of Stuffed Animals in Kindergarten! |
We are SO thankful for our sweet class! They have received a jar full of compliments working as "Team Kindergarten." These were earned through activities like walking in a beautiful line or being respectful and quiet in the hallway. As a reward, they were allowed to bring in a stuffed animal to spend the day with them. What a fun day it was being thankful for one another!
