A Message from the Head of School
Dear FA Families,

I wanted to write a note of thanks and appreciation to all those who participated in the FA Trunk or Treat event on campus last Tuesday afternoon. The driving engine for this event was our FA Parent Association leaders; and without their vision and volunteer corps, the event would have been but a fraction of what it turned out to be.

That event reminds us all again that it takes much more than well-intentioned people with an idea to make an event like this succeed. It takes a common purpose and a roster of roll-up-your-sleeves and invest-time-and-energy leaders, and there was no shortage of those profiles working on Tuesday night.

Also, to every family and every organization, including but not limited to the Upper School club members and leaders who sponsored a decorated and candy or gadget-stocked ”trunk,” thank you as well. Pretty simple equation here. No trunks equals no event. Spectacularly decorated and generously stocked trunks plus a costume-bedecked, appreciative and polite child audience equals a wildly successfully and genuinely enjoyed by all event.

If you have younger children, please put this event on your calendar for next year. It epitomizes much of what we continue to build into our FA brand… age-appropriate, child–centered joyful engagement for our students and their families.

If you participated as a volunteer or as an attendee, please make sure to share your feedback with the Parent Association leadership by clicking here and completing a brief survey created by the Trunk and Treat organizers.

The Trunk and Treat event is but one of countless examples of how the Parent Association's Board members and volunteers work diligently every day to make FA a better school. Their efforts are indeed valuable and much appreciated.

Respectfully,

Scott L. Hutchinson

Bryce Reilly was crowned FA's 2021 Homecoming King at the Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday afternoon.
Other seniors on the Homecoming King Court were Cole Lawrence, Spencer Sullivan, and Thomas Veal.
Fathers, Faith, and Frederica
On Friday, November 5, after 602 days, Fathers, Faith and Frederica (FF&F) is coming back on Frederica's campus. We will be meeting in the big tent next to the football field. A coffee hour starts at 8:00 a.m. and our meeting kicks off at 8:15 a.m. We will be wrapped up by 9:00 a.m.

So, what is FF&F? We are fathers. We are men of faith. And we are connected to Frederica in some way (kids, work, coach, grandkids). We are men who recognize that iron sharpens iron. By gathering, sharing our faith, our triumphs, and our struggles, we will all emerge from our meeting stronger than when we arrived.

We have our coffee time, our lesson and then our "open discussion" time. Topics tackled here have included sports, local politics, burner phones, cyber security, leveraged options strategies, and the proper oil to use in your outboard. If this seems like your kind of group, well then come to the tent on Friday, November 5, at 8:00 a.m. All FA men are welcome.

FA Bucket Shot + Grade Photos
The "Bucket Shot" is an annual FA tradition where the entire school body gathers for a commemorative group photo. Historically, the photograph was taken by a photographer in a bucket truck. Today, the photograph is captured from the second story of Corn Hall with everyone gathered on the Sea Island Green. It will take place on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.

Grade level photos (PK-11) will be taken on the Terry Thomas Playground following the Bucket Shot. Please refer to the schedule for details.

FRIDAY
Standardized Exams (Grades 8-11)
PSAT 8-9 (Grade 8)

Eighth Grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 exam on Friday morning. While there is no direct preparation for these types of tests, Frederica Academy recommends the following to Eighth Grade parents:

  • Have your child present at school on the day of testing;
  • Encourage a relaxed evening prior to testing, along with a good night's rest and a normal, balanced breakfast; and, finally,
  • Arrive at school on time and unhurried - which is a great start to any day!

PreACT (Grades 9-11)

The PreACT will be administered to Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors on Friday morning. Students should bring two sharpened No. 2 pencils and a charged calculator to the exam. Testers should report to their assigned testing room at 8:15 a.m. The PreACT provides students with a structured testing environment similar to what they will experience when taking the ACT, ACT test-quality questions, and predictive scores on the familiar 1-36 scale. This helps students get comfortable with the test and understand how they're doing in core subjects. It also helps parents and educators identify areas where additional support might be necessary.

Congratulations, Kate Walbridge!
Kate Walbridge was honored as the Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Brunswick at the Brunswick Country Club last week.

Kate selected Mrs. Gallagher as her teacher honoree. Kate was joined by Mrs. Gallagher and her parents, Nikki and Greg Walbridge, at the luncheon.
Eighth Grade Math
Eighth Grade Math students conducted a Barbie bungee jump during Middle School Gold Day last week. Their goal was to pick the right number of rubber bands to get close to the ground without touching. Students collected data from shorter jumps, modeled the data using a linear equation, and tested their prediction.
LS Pumpkin Contest
Lower School teachers got together last week for their annual pumpkin party. Each Lower School grade level and administrator team created a fun pumpkin for students to vote on as their favorite.

The winning Pumpkin, Baby Yoda, was created by Third Grade and is pictured above.

The teachers had so much fun and were excited to announce the winning pumpkin at Friday’s morning meeting.

Second Grade Stars
Last week's Second Grade Star Students were Andrew Osteen and Livi ScottThey did a wonderful job presenting their decorated All About Me Star posters and interviewing each other.

Andrew invited his brother Marshall Osteen, who is a Sixth Grade student at Frederica Academy, to be his guest reader.
Livi invited her grandmother, Marsha Elsberry, and her aunt, Adrienne Elsberry, to be her reader.

Andrew and Livi shined brightly this week as our Second Grade stars!
First Grade Wit + Wisdom
As a part of their Wit and Wisdom module “A World of Books,” First Grade students have focused on how books change lives around the world. This week, the students read two book about Louis Braille. They were very inspired by the courage and persistence that he showed at such a young age. Our First Graders loved making the Braille alphabet using Legos and glue dots. They also learned how to make their name in Braille.
PK Mystery Readers
Last week’s Pre-K Mystery Readers were Charles Anderson’s First Grade brother, Robby, and his dad, Rob Anderson. Robby and Mr. Anderson read Iggy Peck Architect, by Andrea Beaty, to the Pre-K class. Ms. Miller and Ms. Leslie loved having their old friend, Robby, back for a visit and Charles loved sharing his big brother with his friends!
