Congratulations to our 2020 FA Varsity Football team, cheerleaders, coaches, athletic trainer, support staff members, all of their families, and the FA Booster Club on an outstanding football season, which culminated in a return trip to the GISA AAA State Championship Game in Macon on Friday night.
The featured headline on the front page of The Brunswick News on Saturday aptly describes a successful and special year for FA Football despite the loss on Friday night. Coach Derrick offers an insightful perspective about the season in the front-page article as he is quoted talking about his players, especially his seniors who, as stated in the article, will be fondly remembered for their perseverance during their FA careers.

UNC Teen Institute
|
|
The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill's Young Founders Institute, an entrepreneurship lab for middle school and high school students, partners with select North Carolina independent schools.
Institute officials have contacted Mrs. Nevins to invite Frederica Academy Middle School and Upper School students to participate in a remote Internship Workshop for teens interested in finding internships this upcoming summer.
During the event, workshop instructors will coach teens on how to find role models in their field of interest, connect with key stakeholders in industries to develop their network, and apply to top tier internship programs at Bank of America, Comcast, and others. Students will be encouraged to explore interests in large organizations as well as early-stage startups.
This is a two-hour program on Saturday, January 16th, and is a free event sponsored by NC IDEA and Launch Chapel Hill.
Interested students should contact Mrs. Nevins.

Cleaning out your garage, playrooms, and backyards to make room for all of the new toys Santa will deliver to your house this Christmas? If so, please consider donating toys and play structures that would be appropriate for our KiX Extended Day program. The KiX team is looking for doll houses, dolls, tool benches, slides, or other items that would engage and inspire active boys and girls who enjoy after-school playtime adventures.
Please contact Heather Day for more information at (423) 782-7716 or via email.

Last week, Glynn County Commissioner-elect Cap Fendig spoke to Mr. Jobe's Advanced Placement Government class about the workings of the Board of Commissioners. Fendig was elected to represent Glynn County District 2 last month, which includes Saint Simons Island. He served as an at-large Glynn County Commissioner from 2000 to 2008 and has remained active in civic affairs since that time when not operating his Lighthouse Trolleys Land & Sea Tours company.

For their end of the semester project in English class, Eighth Grade students collaborated with the Fine Arts Department to write, record, and edit a 15-episode podcast series on Charles Dickens' classic novella, A Christmas Carol. Whether they worked in specific character study, popular adaptation, or historical and biographical background, each student researched closely, revised carefully, and learned new technologies for expressing what they think. Look for 8th grade's podcast, Dead as a Doornail, on Spotify soon!

Last week, Third Grade students traveled to Germany as part of their Holidays Around the World Trip. Gingerbread houses were created in Germany. So, to celebrate, students created their own gingerbread houses.

Second Grade Star Students
|
|
The Second Grade Star Student last week was Isabella Simmons. Isabella shared her "All About Me" poster with the class. She worked hard to decorate her poster and did a wonderful job! Isabella invited her brother John Jeffrey, who is a sixth grader at Frederica Academy, to be her guest reader. He read a story about Christmas from the book Christmas Story, which is a collection of several stories. Congratulations to Isabella and thank you to our special guest reader!
