A Message from the Admission Office
Dear FA Families,

All that comes later, starts now.

This statement succinctly describes Frederica Academy in its ongoing pursuit to prepare students not only for what lies ahead in the next grade or division level, but also the challenges and rewards of college and beyond. All that lies in the future for our students, happens today and each day at Frederica Academy.

Yet it also feels fitting of our recent Open House week. The process to introduce prospective families and students to Frederica Academy has begun. What ultimately comes later is a new class of FA Knights that will invigorate each grade, class and division of the school bringing with it fresh ideas, new friendships and a flourishing Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade institution. The upcoming months will be filled with campus tours, application submissions, shadow visits, and ultimately the successful enrollment of new students for the 2022-2023 school year.

During Open House Week, Frederica Academy opened its doors to prospective students and families. Guests enjoyed daily curated programming including information sessions with administrators, teachers, and students. Prospective and current parents alike listened to impassioned and dedicated educators and articulate students all sharing a compelling piece of what makes Frederica unlike any other school in the area. Of notable interest was the recently updated Frederica video. Please take a few minutes to watch it here.

A prospective Pre-K family has attended Open House over the years in anticipation of their child’s entry this August. The parent shared the following feedback after their experience at Open House last week:

"Thank you for having me at this year’s Open House events! It was great to be able to be there. Every year, no matter how prepared I think I am, I find myself deeply moved by the school’s message. Imagining the possibility of our son being part of something as special as Frederica Academy, to have that learning experience and sense of community, brings me to tears. He has so much to give, and it feels like he belongs there. And I’m sure all the other parents feel the same way, as we want our kids to have their best chance in life and to reach their full potential."

Many current parents also attended as guests to learn more about curriculum and programming at the next level and division. Other parents served as Parent Ambassadors greeting guests, answering questions and accompanying guests on student-led tours. One current FA parent equated the Open House experience to that of a “vow renewal;” fully recommitted to Frederica Academy and all that lies ahead for their child. A sense of pride could be felt from our current parents and students as they bore witness to the hard work that is poured into FA by its students and, likewise, what is invested in the students by the school.

We hope that each of you will also wish to renew your commitment to Frederica Academy as we come to our re-enrollment deadline for the 2022-2023 school year early this week. If you haven’t done so already, please complete your child(ren)’s re-enrollment by Tuesday, February 15. Your timely completion of the process is vital to our enrollment management efforts. Please see below for re-enrollment instructions.

As a reminder, Frederica seeks to encourage and reward current families that go above and beyond to promote Frederica Academy to their family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues. The New Knight Referral Program provides qualifying families with a $500 tuition credit for each new Kindergarten through 11th grade student who enrolls at Frederica Academy for the 2022-2023 school year. To learn more about this program, visit the website here or download the referral form here.

Thank you sharing your children with Frederica. It is the greatest honor to serve your family.

Sincerely,

Helen Rentz
Director of Admission

Thank You, Rachael Lee!
In recognition of National School Counseling Week, FA students, faculty, and administrators honored Rachael Lee, FA's School Counselor, last week. She was honored at Lower School Morning Meeting by the entire Lower School before receiving thank you cards from the entire Fourth Grade class on Friday afternoon. Gratitude was also conveyed throughout the day by students and colleagues from all three divisions.

For the past several years, Mrs. Lee has served with great distinction as the Lower and Middle School Counselor. This year, Mrs. Lee added the Upper School to her counseling portfolio. We are blessed to have such a dedicated, compassionate, energetic, and talented resource leading our counseling programs and serving our students and families when individual counseling is needed. Thank you, Mrs. Lee!

US Health + Wellness Club News
We are over half way to our goal for Relay for Life! We would like to thank everyone for the support! Below are a few upcoming events from the Health and Wellness Club:

Middle School Canned Goods Advisory Battle - Starting February 22 through March 16, the Middle School advisories will have a competition to see which advisory can collect the most canned goods for our Relay for Life Team. The canned goods are used to weigh the luminaries down at the Relay for Life event and are then donated to Second Harvest. The winning advisory will win a pizza party, courtesy of the Health and Wellness Club. Each advisory will have a box to place canned goods in. This project is being led by our Middle School Relay Team Chairs, Connor Pope and Wilson McCallum

FA Relay For Life Team Spirit Night - Our Health and Wellness Club will be sponsoring this night at the St. Simons Chick-fil-A from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on February 24. Put it on your calendar! Good food and good fun for a good cause! This event is being chaired by club and relay members Kendall Drury, Gabby Vacheron, and Holly Lewis.

Penny Wars - Each division has a container and the war is on! Which division can collect the most pennies? A division can be sabotaged by silver coins! See Holly Lewis for more information!

Worry Free Wednesday - February 17 is the next date for our Upper School Worry Free Wednesday. Come see us on Sea Island Green during break for a treat, a stress relief activity, music, and this month's game! We have selected the "Best Friends Game" as our challenge! See how much these best friend duos know about each other!

We have so much going on and we are excited about the growth of our club! We now have over 90 members!

Eighth Grade English
Getting Serious with Philosophical Chairs

Ms. Cook's Eighth Grade English class took to the debate floor to kick off their Argumentative Writing unit. Students debated whether or not they were in support of the following statement: "Schools should stop the practice of giving letter grades to students. Instead, they should only give written feedback." After picking a side, students conducted research to support and defend their opinions before taking to the debate floor. Passions were running high as students confidently argued their points and attempted to change the minds of their peers!
Eighth Grade Escape Room
Eighth Grade students participated in a Revolutionary War escape room in Mrs. Smith's History class last week. The students had to decode messages in order to figure out the lockbox codes. Teams of students figured out the codes to receive the ultimate reward of extra credit for Friday's test.
Second Grade Pillow Project
Ms. Myles’ Second Grade Class made snowflake pillows in art class last week. They were so fluffy that Mrs. Pruitt used one to take a quick nap, much to the delight of the class.
