A Special Invitation
Dear FA Families and Friends of the Arts,

Blood, sweat, and tears are nothing short of what has been poured into the creation of the school’s upcoming production of Mamma Mia.

This Thursday, Thespian Troupe #8989 is honored to present our opening night of the wonderful musical, Mamma Mia. Led by seniors Annika Clark, Sophia Holloway, Greta Johnston, Holly Lewis, and me, Mamma Mia has been a work of art, ever since auditions started in October. I was fortunate to work with this talented group of performers on this production as well as so many other projects during our high school careers. For Mamma Mia, we were joined by a dedicated and creative group of underclassmen and crew … all of whom worked tirelessly over the past few months.

You cannot imagine how many times we have choreographed dancing numbers, stayed after rehearsal hours to work on individual scenes, and memorized character lines. Although we, as actors, spent countless months trying to transform ourselves into the persona of someone else, we all agree that we have grown individually. Mamma Mia has given us an opportunity to reflect on and appreciate many things. For the cast, this production gives us a chance to come closer and bond over our love for the arts. During a pandemic where theatre has been undermined and relegated, grinding out Mamma Mia has helped us find a collective meaning in something, something that would fortify our love for theatre. For the seniors, the time spent together choreographing and memorizing lines and songs has brought us closer together, even when we are beginning to enter our own separate pathways in life.

It’s important to acknowledge the time put into this production by our creative directors and production team. Without Dr. Nielsen and Ms. Davis, none of this would be possible. Their dedication and the amount of time that they poured into Mamma Mia is unimaginable, and it is reflective of who they are as directors and educators. We are all incredibly grateful for them and what they are doing to keep this program moving in the right direction.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week will be three performances you will not want to miss. Come and support the FA Cast, Crew, Teachers, and Tech. Please see below for details.

Thank you and best,

Knights Table Menu
The Knights Table has some new faces preparing and serving lunch. Chef Sunny has taken a food service job with the hospital system in Camden County, and we wish her well and thank her for her service over the last two and a half years.

Despite all of the challenges in the workplace of labor shortages, we are blessed to have been able to staff the Knights Table with a mixture of paid staff and cheerful volunteers. Many thanks to Lily Redanz who is our most seasoned employee at the cash register and to the many helping hands who are making morning break and lunchtime a great success.

A special shout-out to Jill Casey who is the chef behind the scenes and to Laura Brown and Jenn Hagfors for serving our kids with a smile. Ask your children what their lunchroom experience has been like lately and please pass on any feedback, recommendations, or comments you may have by clicking here

Local physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants volunteer their time to complete these screenings. The cost is ten dollars and is charged to each student's account. Please use the following link to access the PPE form, which needs to be completed and returned to Nurse Pope prior to April 27:

FA Red Cross Blood Drive
The FA Health and Wellness Club is proud to sponsor our second Red Cross Blood drive this year on Saturday, April 30, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Shuman Conference Room. Earlier this year, the Red Cross declared its first-ever blood crisis due to the shortage of blood donations. The Red Cross reports a 10% decline in donations since the start of the Covid pandemic. To ensure that all patients receive medical care without delay, blood donations are vital. Please consider donating!

To donate, please contact Nurse Pope or Mr. Riggs. Remember, one donation can save up to three lives!

FA Relay for Life Updates
The FA Health and Wellness Relay for Life Team is on a roll! Our team won two of the three monthly challenges at the most recent monthly Glynn County relay meeting, earning a two hundred dollar credit for our team account. We had the most team members present wearing green (18 - see photo above), and we brought in the most canned goods for the luminaria. The canned goods will be used to anchor down the luminaria on the night of the event and then donated to Second Harvest. We donated a record number of 280 canned goods this month! I believe the exact words used by the county leaders were, "Frederica Academy Relay Team is on fire!" We thank everyone who has supported us so far! Our team is currently in second place for the entire county! With one month to go before the event, we have reached 90% of our goal! Please make plans to come out to the Relay for Life event on April 22 at the Golden Isles Church of God and visit our booth! The event will run from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. that night.

Megan Trowbridge
Health and Wellness Community Service Chair
Over the past month, the Middle School has waged an advisory battle for canned goods collections for our Relay for Life Team. Connor Pope and Wilson McCallum are our Middle School Relay for Life chairs and did an amazing job. Congratulations to Coach Derrick's Advisory! They collected 57 cans for the win, barely beating out Mrs. Sandra Smith's Advisory with 53 cans. Coach Derrick's Advisory has won a pizza party from the FA Health and Wellness Club!  Overall, the Middle School collected over 170 canned goods!

Health + Wellness Pi(e) Day
The FA Health and Wellness Club sponsored the first-ever Pi day on Monday, 3/14, to raise funds for our Relay for Life team. It was such a fun event! Our faculty volunteers were Mr. Temple, Mrs. Lavallee, Dr. Nevins, and Mr. Jobe. Our senior student volunteers were Jacob O'Connor, Thomas Veal, and Emmy Mitchell. We sold over 100 pies, as other faculty, family members, Middle School students, and Upper School students "pied" their choices! We can't thank our good-natured volunteers enough! From Mr. Jobe's heckling to Mrs. Lavallee's screaming, it was amazing! A special thanks to Mrs. Detra Brock for helping Mr. Shorthouse take pictures for our club!

Math Pi Day Lessons
Mrs. Triplett's 7th, 8th, and 11th Grade math students celebrated Pi Day by traveling to multiple stations using string to measure the circumference of various circular objects, calculating areas and unit prices for pizzas, measuring spheres to calculate the radius and explore volume, and using Pi Facts to create poems, songs, stories, or graphics. Of course, it wouldn't be a complete Pi Day celebration without some PIE!

Pi Poetry
By: Connor Pope

Pi is equal to 22/7
These math facts leave me in heaven
Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day
When he was born people shouted, Hooray!
Been studying pi for four thousand years
All these numbers be turning my gears
Pis the most famous constant on Earth
There are more digits than you have
