A Student Leader Message
Dear Frederica Families,

As our summer break quickly came to a halt, I am sure many Lower, Middle, and Upper Schoolers found themselves missing summer before it had ended, and dreading school before it had begun. Although it is unprecedented, I would have to say that I found myself in the opposite boat.

As I have been studying abroad for the past eight months, I have had the opportunity to experience new cultures and live in global communities. Reflecting on my Italian experience, I can say two things for sure. The first thing being that there is absolutely no problem that tiramisu or gelato can't fix. The second being that nothing beats our FA home and beloved Frederica community.

Through all of the places I visited and friends I made, at the end of every day, I still felt as if there was a part of me missing. I had traded East Beach for the Alps and our extended summer heat for winters lasting through April. The homesick feeling that I couldn’t seem to shake came from my desire to live in a close-knit community like the one I had back home. It took me living in a foreign country to realize that I had taken my life here for granted.

Amongst all of the stress that came with school, I realized how easy it is to overlook the comfort our community can bring us. Without the comfort of our moss draped oak trees and the familiar faces around campus, I felt lost amongst a school of 2,000 students. Trying to communicate with my Italian teachers through a language barrier made me appreciate the personal relationships we have with our teachers here at Frederica. It was the tiny differences in my everyday school life that made me see how often we overlook the little things that make our quaint campus so unique.

As we head into this school year, I encourage all of you to never take this community for granted. Take time out of your day to notice and appreciate Frederica’s charm. Although this is my last year as a Frederica Academy student, I know that the friendships, memories, and connections I have made in the past seven years will be a part of me long after graduation. Savor it and make your time at Frederica count.

Sincerely,

Ryann Hankey, Class of 2023

Campus Traffic Updates
Thank you to everyone for adapting to our new format for drop-off and pick-up. We are still tweaking the process but believe we are headed towards a safer and more efficient traffic operation. More permanent signage and road markings will be added once we are confident we have the right system in place. Things to remember:

When coming in through the front gates, please take care to yield to vehicles in the roundabout.

Lower School drivers should loop through the East Campus Parking Lot when the road in front of the Administration Building is full of cars.

When the three lanes split in the East Campus Parking Lot near the baseball field, the MIDDLE SCHOOL lane is the outer lane that runs along the football field. The middle lane is the LOWER SCHOOL lane and the inside lane is the exit lane for cars that will go directly to exit campus.

During Morning Drop-off, Middle School students can be dropped off near the Benefield Hall sidewalk. If the driver is not able to cross over lanes of traffic to exit, please stay in the right hand lane. School personnel will be at the end of Benefield Lane to direct traffic - either allowing Lower School drivers from the LOWER SCHOOL lane to enter the drop-off line in front of the Administration Building or allowing Middle School drivers to exit the MIDDLE SCHOOL lane, pulling into the left lane so that they are able to exit.  Drivers should NEVER turn left out of Benefield Lane - all traffic should turn to the right and take care to follow instructions from school personnel or to exercise caution and yield where appropriate.

Finally, when exiting the school, drivers should try to select the right turn and left turn lanes (based on the direction they turning on Demere) as early as feasible. If drivers could make an effort not to block the gate entrance, vehicles exiting to the right can continuously exit, which clears the line for the rest of the vehicles to move more quickly once the Demere Road light allows for left turns. Everyone has demonstrated great care and courtesy at this exit and it does appear to have moved the line more quickly.

As always, we welcome your feedback and comments. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

Middle School News
Thank You For Sharing
Thanks for sharing your children with the FA faculty. It was a fun first week of school. As students navigate their daily schedule the routine will become more familiar. Most anxiety fades away as we complete a couple of weeks of school. Hey, we are one week closer to summer!

It was Rockin'
The FA spirit was alive and well in Benefield and Fleming Halls. It was on full display in the gym on Wednesday when we held the August 2022 Rock, Paper, Scissors competition. Each student and teacher participated. Once you were ousted by another competitor, you became that victors' cheerleader. The contest was held to hammer home the idea that we have a tradition at FA of cheering on each community member. It was fun, loud, and wild.

Fifth grader Winter Hunter was the overall MS Champion. Congrats, Winter!

Fifth Grade Winner -- Winter Hunter
Sixth Grade Winner -- Hudson Carter
Seventh Grade Winner -- Rylen Hicks
Eighth Grade Winner -- Jacob Gordon
Faculty Winner -- Sandra Smith

Tutorial Begins Monday
The Middle School Tutorial program is scheduled each Monday-Thursday from 3:20 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. This optional support program allows students to receive additional instruction from their core academic teachers. Students wishing to receive support should report to the teacher's classroom immediately after our last class period.

Smart Watches and Phone Policy
All smart watches and phones must be stored in the students' backpack or locker once they arrive on campus. Students are not allowed to carry or use these devices during the school day.

MS Curriculum Night - August 23
The Middle School Parent Curriculum Night program will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23. Parents will follow an abbreviated schedule similar to what their child traverses on a daily basis. Registration tables will be set up under the breezeway near the south end of Fleming Hall where parents will receive their evening schedule. The program will be completed by 7:30 p.m.
LS After-School Clubs
The Fall Session of Lower School After-School Clubs starts the week of August 29. Each program will run for eight weeks. If needed, any make-up sessions will take place the week of October 24.

Completed forms and payments are due no later than Wednesday, August 24.
The Knights Table: THIS WEEK
The Knights Table was happy to see FA students back in the lunchroom last week. There have been a few improvements to the serving line that we want to be sure everyone is aware of.

We still offer "Grab and Go" options as well as milk and water in coolers and cabinets that students pass on the way to the hot food line. Once students have picked up whatever they are interested in from the Grab and Go section, the line splits into two sections:

  • First Line (to the right): This is the CUSTOM line for students who want to customize their lunch plate by not taking all of the offerings of the day... (for example, chicken only, no veggies... or veggies only, etc.) Lily Redanz is the cashier for this line.

  • Second Line (to the left) is the EXPRESS line (Grades 3-12).  If a student is only getting Grab and Go items or wants to get the hot lunch exactly as described on the menu, they can go directly to this line. We now have a warmer cabinet that these entrees are stored in and students can get through the line more quickly. Peggy O'Brien is the cashier for this line.

On Fridays, the process will change slightly. The custom line (right) will become the cheese pizza slice line and the express line (left) will become the pepperoni pizza slice line. Everything will have signage but please let your children know that’s how they can move through the line more quickly.

The menu is always available on the website and in FACTS.

Knights Table will also be offering Morning Break to Upper School students daily and to Middle School students MWF. Grab and Go items are always available and a hot breakfast item or two will be available on the line.

The PK Bento Box Form has changed slightly from last year (different options) so please use this form when completing your order for the week.

As always, please provide any comments or suggestions by clicking here.
FA Clothing Drive: THIS WEEK
Each year, Frederica sponsors a clothing drive at the beginning of the school year. This year's efforts support Safe Harbor residents and their organization.

They are looking for gently used and/or new clothing and accessories (hats, shoes, bags, jewelry) for men, women, and children. Please bring clothes to the reception areas of Corn Hall and the front office in the Administration Building the week of August 15-19.  Contact Parker Jules (Class of 2023) with questions.

Fourth Grade First Day
Fourth Grade students had an amazing first day of school! They played with the classroom pet and learned about the important job of raising and folding the school’s American flag.
Third Grade Third Day
On Friday, Third Grade students had fun on their "3rd day of 3rd grade." To kick off this celebration, the students were given a number 3 and asked to disguise it. They enjoyed creating artwork around their number 3. Then, throughout the rest of the day the 3rd graders participating in activities involving the number 3.
First Grade STEM Activity
First Grade students participated in their first STEM activity of the year last week. After reading "Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late" by Mo Willems, students worked with a partner to build a freestanding bed that would hold their paper pigeon cut-out. The First Grade teachers are so proud of the First Graders for their hard work!
