President's Message

Unanimous Passion

Carolyn Lee, President

FAB! continues to evolve as is necessary for any successful organization. Amazing new members and progressive ideas are part of a strategic plan. Unanimous passion for the arts is the driving force behind our growth and development.

Since the inception of FAB!, we have granted over $3 million to local arts organizations. This is a major feat and it is thanks to you that we can continue to have an impact on the local arts community.

I am thrilled to share that our membership has been steadily growing. This is crucial as the need for more arts funding is greater due to government funding cuts. Much thanks to our strong board and committees who have been working hard to engage fellow supporters of arts and culture.

So how do we grow from here? FAB! is meeting the challenge to expand the membership base and increase funding for the arts with the expansion of our members’ program. More fun, engaging member events and ongoing communications will remain top priorities.

We are adding two new levels of membership and we are increasing our individual membership dues.
• Individual membership $1,200
• Couples package $1,800
• Young adults (40 and under) $600
• Corporate members $3,500

Ultimately, these changes will translate to more funding for quality programming for the community to enjoy. It is my pleasure to currently lead FAB!’s direction and I thank my fellow board members, corporate partners and members for their commitment to the arts.

GRANT APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE

Funding Arts Broward has announced its call for grant applications for 2020 funding. Local 501(c)3 arts organizations are encouraged to apply by the deadline of January 25, 2019, to be considered for funding.

“FAB! is proud to serve as a viable funding source for a variety of outstanding performing and visual arts organizations in our community,” said Harvey Shapiro, co-chair of the FAB! Grants Committee. “We encourage local arts organizations to submit grant applications for their innovative and quality arts programming that entertain and inspire both local residents and area visitors.”

The most recent funding cycle included grants to 26 organizations including Girl Choir of South Florida, Florida Children’s Theatre, Island City Stage, Old Dillard Foundation, South Florida Wind Pride Ensemble and more.

To apply, organizations must be based in Broward, Palm Beach or Miami-Dade County and offer visual, music or performing arts-focused programming in Broward County. Eligibility requirements and applications can be found online at fundingartsbroward.org/grants/grant-applications. For questions about the application process, please direct them to [email protected].

GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT - ARTSERVE

Funding Arts Broward has awarded ArtServe several grants for its innovative programming to unite artists with the community. ArtServe provides opportunities for collaboration, exhibition, performance, professional development and marketing – all as a means of creating a vibrant, culturally rich community.

Artists have access to daily classes plus can participate in exhibitions, workshops and discussions to hone their skills. The community reaps the benefits with access to juried art shows throughout the year plus signature events like RedEye.

“FAB! support provides the critical resources needed to bring exciting and innovative arts programming to life in Broward County. Their funding is a vital lifeline to cultural non-profits like ArtServe that use art to enrich our community and elevate our quality of life,” said Jaye Abbate, CEO of ArtServe.

ArtServe’s commitment to taking art out of the gallery and bringing it to the patrons is celebrated with a one-of-a-kind art happening at W Fort Lauderdale on November 9. This event will feature live art, performance art, fashion and more, providing new opportunities for local artists to have their work seen, sold, and appreciated. To learn more about ArtServe, visit www.artserve.org.

"ART SHARE"" DEBUTS THIS NOVEMBER

FAB! is excited to present its first ever Art Share event which will showcase a variety of artworks from creative FAB! members on November 16 from 6-9 pm at Blanco y Blanco in Fort Lauderdale. Art submissions include sculpture, photography and mixed medium paintings. Select art will be for sale with 25% of the proceeds donated back to FAB!. Beer wine and light hors’d oeuvres will be served. The entry fee is $15 per person for members and guests. Please RSVP to at fundingartsbroward.org/artshare-event.

STEERING FAB! IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

The FAB! Visionary Fund has had a great impact on the organization’s growth and development. Our commitment remains that 100% of membership dues go directly to grants; however, the Visionary Fund was established in 2016 to help offset the cost of doing business which includes accounting, communications and membership development.

Our Fund goal for 2018 is $65,000 and we cannot do it without you. Your generosity is vital to the organization. At a time when the arts community needs us more than ever due to devastating budget cuts, FAB! is even more committed to serving as a viable funding source.

All gifts are welcome as new and increased contributions to the Visionary Fund are currently matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000 by the Horvitz Family Foundation. This amazing contribution, for the third year in a row, has been an invaluable tool which has translated to more funding for quality arts programming.

“Thanks to those who have generously given to the Visionary Fund, FAB! has successfully grown its membership base and increased its networking and outreach capabilities,” said Ruth Anderson Coggeshall, vice president and chair of the Visionary Fund. "A gift is more critical than ever. We encourage those who have donated in the past and others who support the arts to contribute by the close of 2018.”

Please make a gift to the Visionary Fund at fundingartsbroward.org or send a check to FAB! 1350 East Sunrise Boulevard, #120, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304.

A jewelry designer by profession, she is also a fashion stylist for women of all ages, helping them find their personal style.

Ellen shared, “I love what FAB! does and have totally enjoyed meeting so many new faces and making new friendships.”

SEASON KICK-OFF

We are fortunate to have generous and loyal corporate partners such as Northern Trust Bank. Recently, Northern Trust was the perfect backdrop for an arts season kick-off event which brought together our valued members in anticipation of a busy season of great shows, art exhibitions and more.

Special thanks to Michelle Howland and Donald Sussman who graciously hosted a prospective members night in their private home. As many as 70 guests attended this intimate gathering to learn more about FAB! and meet other current and potential new members. Also, thank you to Bonnie Clearwater for sharing her art expertise during this social event.

Thank you to our Corporate Members for their continued support!
