FABENG 2200 and 2201: Introduction to Humanitarian Engineering
|
What is Humanitarian Engineering? Humanitarian Engineering is working with individuals and communities to design solutions to improve well-being.
In the lecture portion of this course (FABE 2200), we will explore the various career paths within humanitarian engineering, learn to apply basic engineering equations to low-resource design solutions, practice self-reflection techniques for processing new experiences, Identify trends and impacts of cultural systems, natural resource availability and technology access globally on engineering design processes and learn to describe a participatory approach to humanitarian engineering.
In the lab section (FABE 2201), we will build understanding and empathy to inform design through experience based learning. Weekly experiential activities will build context for engineering design in low resource and international settings as humanitarian development workers. The overarching goal of participation in the lab is to build an understanding of various lifestyles, challenges and physical limits to human existence that is needed to better inform humanitarian engineering design.

Stay Safe and Health: Get Your Annual Flu Shot
|
Flu season has started and, this year especially, it’s even more important to guard yourself against the virus.
Because the flu and COVID-19 are circulating at the same time there’s an increased risk of being exposed to both viruses. The most safe and effective way to keep you, your family and your friends healthy is by getting your annual flu shot. According to the CDC, flu shots can reduce the risk of getting the flu by up to 60%, lessen the severity of symptoms and stop the spread of flu to others.
Looking to get schedule an appointment? Make sure to start by reviewing your insurance plan to find the best way to get your flu shot.
- For students covered under the Student Health Insurance plan, the cost of flu shots is 100% covered at many pharmacy locations, including at the Wilce Student Health Center.
- If you’re covered under a different insurance place, contact your insurance carrier to ask how flu shots are covered by your insurance, and confirm where you can get them from network providers and pharmacies.
