The Nature Conservancy and National Geographic Society

Overview

Whether you live near an ocean or far away, water is a vital resource. Globally, marine habitats are facing mounting threats that stand to affect every person on the planet. Understanding the interconnectedness of natural systems, locally and globally, is critical to a sustainable future. Overfishing, offshore drilling, ocean acidification, or the loss of coral reefs may feel distant, but in this externship, participants will translate marine conservation into a local context. Learn how to make marine issues relevant to any community and identify solutions. Students will explore marine conservation careers, interact with experts and scientists from the National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy, conduct research, and connect with local conservation organizations.

  • 100% remote and flexible
  • Part-time (10 hours/week for 8 weeks)

The Experience

  • Explore resources and case studies on current marine conservation issues and solutions such as marine protected areas.
  • Learn and apply primary and secondary research methods to investigate conservation initiatives and identify regional and local issues that are relevant to marine conservation.
  • Speak to local leaders, conservationists, and community members to understand connections to marine conservation.
  • Identify gaps in local conservation efforts relevant to marine conservation and propose solutions to issues you may uncover.
  • Gain skills in written, verbal and visual storytelling to communicate marine issues and the ways in which your community can help.

 

Qualifications

  • Candidates should be between the ages of 18-25 and have an interest in learning about introductory approaches to conservation and careers in conservation.
  • We strongly encourage individuals from locations that are directly impacted by challenges to marine habitats to apply.
  • No prior work experience or coursework in conservation or environmental topics is required.

Position:  Agronomy Remote Sensing Intern; Preferred location:  Remote

 

Summer 2022 Internship May - August 2022 

The agronomy field team needs immediate help to expand our remote sensing activities to better characterize research plot locations and better understand product performance. Focus will be on improving and automating workflows related to UAV remote sensing data.

 

Responsibilities: 

In this role, an intern will: 

• Assist in developing and automating workflows related to agricultural remote sensing including, mosaicking, caculcaling vegetative inces, and temporal analyses

• Assist in data ingestion and quality control

• Support agronomist and trial managers with periodic field observations and updates 

• Develop a field-based learning project and present project objective and results upon

• completion of internship

• Other duties as assigned

 

Physical Demands: 

• As needed walking, scouting, sampling, and working in production corn fields with varying summer elements 

• Driving between farm sites and other locations as needed 

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

• Having career experience or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or higher degree in one of the following: Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Crop Sciences, Soil Science, Ecology, Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, and/or related field

• Must have high attention to detail

• Must be able to learn technical skills of equipment operation

• Preferred, experience in agriculture and/or research field trials

• Preferred, experience operating UAVs, RTK GNSS, and advanced sensors

• Preferred, experience working with remotely sensed data in a geospatial software

• Strong verbal and communication skills

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and driven intern to work in our Engineering Services team. This intern position engages in a range of technical service functions supporting the proper application and design of ADS’ stormwater storage and treatment systems products. The position provides technical support primarily to ADS field sales personnel and our customers including consulting engineers, contractors and others that specify and use our products. The primary job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

·      Engineering technical support for underground stormwater management products

·      Layout of underground stormwater systems given site specific constraints

·      Technical service request tracking and project management via the ADS database

·      Development of new spreadsheets and other technical engineering/sales tools

·      Direct verbal and written communication with ADS customers

 

Qualifications

·      Position is open to both undergraduate (sophomore, junior, senior) and graduate students.

·      Prefer Civil or Environmental engineering majors, but others will be considered.

·      Prefer experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) using AutoDesk or similar program         

·      Minimum core GPA of 3.0.

·      Strong verbal and written communication skills, and analytical skills

·      Ability to clearly articulate complex ideas and creatively solve problems

·      Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship management skills

Stress Lab Test Engineer Position

CNH Industrial

The Stress Lab Test Engineer position will instrument (transducers, accelerometers and strain gages) Agricultural Equipment, collect data and analyze data on various component and sub systems of a vehicle in a lab or field environment to determine acceptability of the designs; develop mission profiles for duty cycle development and test stand loading requirements; travel to remote field locations to collect data during key harvest seasons.


Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for executing data acquisition and analysis requests in lab and field settings including planning, instrumentation set up, strain gaging, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Work with design engineers to interpret data for components to achieve desired results.
  • The engineer will recommend alternatives to enhance performance, reliability, quality, durability, and margin improvement; and work with the product development team to resolve product issues.
  • Prepare, organize and submit timely and concise reports which include data reduction and analysis of system/component performance, reliability, and durability. Maintain accurate and comprehensive test records for reference and analysis.

Ohio No-Till Council College Scholarship Application 2023

The Ohio No-Till Council is offering 5 scholarships ranging from $500-$1000!


These scholarships are one year in length and are open students who are enrolling or are currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year accredited college program. Preference will be given to those majoring in Agriculture and/or coming from a conservation farming background. 


Four $500-dollar scholarships are open to applicants of any college or expected degree. 


The Bill Richards Scholarship ($1000) is open to an applicant fulfilling the above requirements and studying agriculture at The Ohio State University. Previous winners and applicants may apply each year they are eligible. 


All monies awarded will be made payable to the winner’s respective school. Scholarships are open to all incoming freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students.


FABE will double any amount of these scholarships received by a FABE student.
