Today, while I was in mass, I found myself profoundly reflective on the message from Luke’s Gospel that was shared with the students and staff. During the homily, all of the teachers were asked to stand for a moment and then the students and staff were asked questions about whether or not they sometimes get frustrated that what they are trying to say or ask is either not fully understood by whom they are asking or they feel ignored. Almost every hand in the church went up when father asked if any of us have ever felt like this! It made me appreciate our focus this year on the Blessed Mother and how even though we may feel like people do not always hear or understand us, we can always turn to her for compassion and understanding.
In Luke 7:31–35, Jesus compares His generation to children who are never satisfied, refusing to dance when the flute is played and refusing to weep when the dirge is sung. The Lord highlights the stubbornness of hearts unwilling to accept either John the Baptist’s call to repentance or His own message of mercy and joy. These verses challenge us to consider how easily we can become resistant to God’s invitations—wanting Him to act on our own terms, yet closing ourselves off to the movements of the Spirit when they do not match our expectations.
This passage also reminds us that wisdom is vindicated by her children, meaning that the truth of God is revealed in the fruit it bears. The life of holiness, humility, and openness to grace will always show itself by the witness it leaves behind. When we fail to respond to God, it is often because we seek control, preferring our own ways over His. The refusal to dance or mourn at the appropriate time becomes a refusal to enter into the rhythm of God’s plan, which is always perfectly timed and perfectly given.
Mary, the Blessed Mother, stands as the great contrast to this stubbornness. Where the people of Jesus’ generation resisted, Mary received. At the Annunciation, she did not dictate terms or close her heart, but responded with her total and trusting “yes.” She entered fully into the music of God’s plan—dancing with joy at the Visitation, weeping with sorrow at the Cross, and rejoicing again at the Resurrection. Her life is proof that true wisdom is indeed vindicated by its children, for she allowed divine wisdom to take flesh within her, giving the world the Savior Himself.
In our own discipleship, Mary shows us how to avoid the hardness of heart that Jesus laments in this Gospel. If we let her guide us, she will teach us to be responsive to God’s promptings, whether they call us to joy or to sacrifice. Through Mary’s intercession, may we grow in a spirit of receptivity, always ready to join in God’s song, whether it is one of gladness or of mourning. By imitating her openness, we will no longer be like those children unwilling to respond, but instead become true children of wisdom, living testimonies of God’s grace in the world.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE for PARENTS of our BUS RIDERS:
PLEASE make sure to let school know any time your child will not be riding the bus at the end of the day (including the shuttle). Whether they are leaving school early, have Scouts or athletics or a practice, it is very important we know. We have to make sure we have the correct students when it's time to escort them to the bus, and lately we have been delayed because we weren't informed about a missing student. It is best to notify both the homeroom teacher, and the school office in one email. Teachers' emails follow this pattern: first initial, last name @grace system.org . The school office email address is FACSoffice@gracesystem.org Please do this by midday, so we are aware. Thank you!

Calling All Subs!
If you are interested in subbing at Father Allouez Catholic School this school year, please reach out to the main office staff at either building so that we can begin the process of getting you all set up! Subbing at FACS is a fun way to get into the building while also helping to ensure a great educational environment on those days when a teacher is out of the building. If this sounds like a prospect that you are interested in, we will help guide you through the process and help with getting acclimated to the building as well. We look forward to having you sub with us!
Activities and Clubs
Do you have a passion for a particular idea or area of expertise or interest that you would like to consider sharing with our students? Father Allouez Catholic School is looking for volunteers to lead after school clubs and activities! Ideas that have been discussed include Lego Robotics (STREAM), Weaving/Handcrafting, and a few others. If you are feeling called to lend your time and talent to these or other ideas, please reach out to Mr. Dempsey at fdempsey@gracesystem.org
