Dear Father Allouez Catholic School Families,

In keeping up with our theme of the year being rooted in the Blessed Mother, I keep finding inspiration in the Gospel message of the day – recently, I heard a great reflection on Luke’s message in which we are all called to proclaim the Good News which is a great task and one that we take to heart every day here at Father Allouez!

Today’s Gospel from Luke 9:1-6, we hear how Jesus sends out His apostles to share the Good News. He tells them to take nothing with them for the journey—no food, no money, not even extra clothes. Instead, they are to trust completely in God to provide for them. Jesus reminds His friends that the mission of spreading God’s love doesn’t depend on things, but on faith, courage, and God’s grace working through them.

Throughout the year, you will read and hear me refer to the “yes” that Mary gives. This passage, again, points us to this example of Mary, the Blessed Mother. When the angel Gabriel appeared to her at the Annunciation, Mary didn’t have a full plan or know how everything would work out. Yet she said “yes” to God with complete trust. Just like the apostles, Mary shows us that being a follower of Jesus means relying on God more than on ourselves. Her life teaches us that when we give our hearts to God, He always gives us what we need.

For us, this Gospel and Mary’s example remind us that following Jesus is not about what we have, but about who we are becoming. Whether in our classrooms, with our families, or with our friends, we can bring Jesus to others through our words, our kindness, and our actions. When we pray to Mary, she helps us to grow closer to Jesus and to live with that same trust she had.

As we begin each day, let us ask Mary to guide us to be brave like the apostles and trusting like she was. With God’s help, we can share His love wherever we go…embracing service as disciples of God!
