President's Message

Hello FAEA Family,

December has arrived, and with it, the opportunity to reflect on the year that’s passed and to prepare for the new one ahead. As I sit down to write this, I can’t help but smile thinking about all of you. Your faces flash through my mind like a montage of joy from our time together—faces full of excitement, inspiration, and the unmistakable glow of connection. What a privilege it was to meet so many passionate art educators, to hear your stories, and to witness the creative energy that makes FAEA such a vibrant community. We need to keep that energy going so use the upcoming winter break as a time to relax, reflect, and recharge for the new year ahead.

Mindfulness Tip for December: Winter Wellness

  • Holiday Mindfulness: Take a moment each day to simply breathe and appreciate the present. Whether you’re celebrating with family or enjoying some quiet time, mindfulness can help you savor these moments.
  • Creative Rejuvenation: Use the break to create art just for yourself. Creating can be a powerful way to recharge and find new inspiration.

Action Item: Advocate for the Arts

  • On Campus: Start a student-led initiative where students can leave positive, art-related messages or small artworks for others to find around the school. This can create a sense of community and appreciation for the arts during the holiday season.
  • In the Community: Organize a winter art fair or market where students can sell their artwork or crafts. This not only showcases their talent but also advocates for the arts as a valuable and marketable skill.

Strengthening FAEA Bonds

  • Create Opportunities: I encourage you to create opportunities for museum educators, higher ed, and retired members to visit your classrooms and share with students. High school teachers, take a moment to visit an elementary or middle school art classroom. These interactions strengthen the bonds across all our divisions.

Thank you for being part of the FAEA community. Your dedication and creativity are what make our organization strong and impactful.

Together we are STRONGER.

Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a peaceful winter break!

In creativity and community,

Latonya Hicks

FAEA President
