Greetings!

As the end of the Fall semester comes upon us, don't forget that FAEA has two opportunities for K-12 students to participate in now. Submissions are now open for the Youth Art Month Flag Design Competition. The winning flag design will represent Florida and be displayed with other state winners during the NAEA Convention in March. The deadline to submit is January 14th, 2022.

Submissions are also open for the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition. This is Florida's premier program for assessing student artwork, as well as promoting the artistic achievements of these students and their teachers. The deadline to submit is March 13th, 2022.

Postcard from the President
Tis the Season to reflect on successes and embrace new perspectives as we wind our way through the holiday season. Always keep in mind that learning happens within students, not to them. Learning is a process of making meaning that happens one student at a time. As we reflect on our teaching and own learning, ask yourself, “How might I teach in ways that best reveal the power of thinking in the student’s designs? How might I learn more about each student as I watch them interact with the content and the ways in which I set about to teach it?” These are questions to help elicit reflection. Look back on the successes and failures from this past year and know that each path provides for a more comprehensive approach to teaching. This type of reflection is at the heart of what Jennifer Garcia was alluding to in her recent publication, What Affect Theory Can Tell Us About Becoming an Art Teacher, in FAEA’s Fall edition of Fresh Paint. It is time to reward yourself for the type of educator you have become. Share your student successes by entering their artwork into the K-12 Student Art Assessment and Virtual Exhibition.

‘Tis the Season to share your gratitude with those who have helped you in the past year. Embrace your older friends and invite new ones into our world. Recruit a new member today! I have been fortunate to mentor two new art educators this year. My love for learning and teaching has allowed me to see the unique qualities each new professional brings to this joyous career. Both mentees are creative, visionary, and grateful to be teaching what they love – Art Education. I am proud to share that both mentees are now becoming active FAEA members. Collaboration is at the heart of what makes FAEA so great.

‘Tis the Season to welcome our 2022-2023 FAEA Board of Directors, expertly guided by our new president, Nancy Puri. It is also a time of the year to say, ‘thank you’ and farewell to my 2020-2021 Board of Directors. It is truly a time of joyful reflection as I continue my leadership journey with FAEA. Thank you all for a wonderful two years and have a blessed holiday season.
