President's Message

Dear FAEA Family,

February is here, and with it comes the exciting preparations for Youth Art Month! This year’s theme, “Healing Through Color,” offers a powerful way to explore how art can connect, inspire, and uplift. As educators, we have the privilege of guiding our students to express themselves and tell their stories through art. March is our opportunity to amplify their voices and celebrate the incredible creativity in our classrooms, studios, and museums.

Healing Through Color invites us to think about the emotional impact of color and its ability to bring people together. Whether you’re organizing a mural, creating a gallery of student work, or exploring color theory in your lessons, there are so many ways to embrace this theme. As you plan your activities, share them with our community! Post your projects and celebrations on social media, tag FAEA, and use this platform to inspire your peers. Together, we can build a vibrant and supportive network, one shared moment at a time.

Looking ahead, it’s also time to start dreaming about your contributions to the 2025 FAEA Annual Conference. What unique perspectives, projects, or lessons can you share with fellow members? This is your chance to highlight the incredible work you’re doing and to learn from the experiences of others. The magic of the FAEA Conference lies in the exchange of ideas and the connections we build. Your voice matters, and your contributions make a difference.

Speaking of leadership opportunities… have you ever thought about running for a position on the FAEA Board? Now is the perfect time! Serving on the board provides an incredible opportunity to grow, lead, and bring new ideas to the table. If you’ve been waiting for the “right time,” let me tell you: it’s now. As the saying goes, “you’ll never have enough time or be fully prepared,” so why wait to push yourself to the next level?

Being on the board is a transformative experience. You’ll work collaboratively with passionate, like-minded individuals who support and uplift one another. The beauty of serving on a board is that so much of what happens, happens together. Leadership isn’t a solo journey—it’s a shared experience that fosters personal and professional growth. As Nike says, “Just do it!” You’ll be amazed at how much you learn and accomplish along the way.

As we prepare for Youth Art Month, the FAEA Conference, and the upcoming board election, let’s remember why we do what we do. Art heals, connects, and inspires, and so do you. Thank you for your dedication to art education and for the impact you make every day.

Let’s step into this month with creativity, courage, and community. Together, we are stronger!

Warm regards,

Latonya Hicks

Youth Art Month

2025 Youth Art Month Theme: Healing Through Color

What is Youth Art Month?

Youth Art Month (YAM) is celebrated nation-wide during the month of March. FAEA invites all art educators to participate in YAM activities this year. The purpose of YAM is to advocate the importance of visual arts education in all schools. We celebrate by highlighting classroom success stories, recognizing outstanding art teachers, and encouraging teachers to promote their art programs in their community.

How to Participate in YAM

YAM celebrations can be as simple as a single-class learning activity that focuses on the value of the arts. Celebrations can also involve school-wide or community art exhibitions, fundraisers for school art programs, or other community art outreach programs. Share your art program success stories on social media and tag @FloridaArtEd in your post and include the following hashtags: #YouthArtMonth #YAM

Together, we can raise awareness of the value of visual arts education in our schools and the positive impact art educators provide to their students and community.
