Dear FAEA Family,
Whoop, there it is! Summer is here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to make a mid-year resolution—one that’s just for YOU. Let’s commit to nurturing or continuing to nurture our artistic selves.
What are you working on that keeps you a lifetime learner? Is there a new skill you’re honing, or a creative passion you’ve been longing to explore? If your mental “art bucket” is looking a little dusty, don’t worry—it’s never too late to refresh it. There’s no better teacher than the one who can say, “I don’t know,” and who’s willing to constantly seek knowledge while encouraging students to do the same.
This summer, let’s learn something new—not because we have to, but because we have the privilege and honor to grow, explore, and create. Whether it’s diving into a painting technique you’ve always admired, trying your hand at ceramics, or even learning to play a musical instrument, embrace the joy of learning for learning’s sake. When we nurture our artistic selves, we model the spirit of curiosity and creativity that inspires our students.
If you’re looking for a way to jumpstart your growth, don’t miss our Summer Professional Learning Sessions in South Florida! These sessions are more than just workshops—they’re a chance to reconnect with fellow educators, reignite your creativity, and leave feeling refreshed and inspired.
Beyond professional learning, museums and cultural organizations are in full swing with their summer programming, offering incredible opportunities to engage with art and community. Whether you’re leading, participating, or simply observing, let’s support and celebrate the amazing work being done by our peers.
And here’s the best part—learning doesn’t have to be solitary. Share your journey with us! Post about what you’re creating, discovering, or exploring on social media and tag FAEA. Together, we can build a network of encouragement and inspiration, showing that we’re all in this beautiful pursuit of growth together.
As you dive into summer, take a moment to appreciate the unique privilege we have as art educators. We get to inspire, guide, and create, not only for our students but also for ourselves. Let’s make this season one of creativity, learning, and connection.
Thank you for being part of our incredible community. I can’t wait to see the amazing things you’ll create and learn this summer.
Together, we are stronger!
Warm regards,
Latonya Hicks
FAEA President
