Monthly News from the President's Palette

The end of another school year is upon us! A few districts have started summer break and others, including myself, have just a few days remaining. The end of the year is such a tremendously busy time as the numerous field trips, award and graduation ceremonies, and end of the year art shows fill the calendar. With the abundant schedule, I have found myself postponing personal responsibilities and it appears I will spend the beginning of break catching up. Summer is a wonderful time of the year for educators allowing time for professional development, vacations, time with family and friends, and of course simply relaxing. On behalf of the Florida Art Education Association, we hope you have an amazing summer that meets your every expectation!

The time is now to nominate your favorite art colleague for the 2017 FAEA Awards recognizing outstanding professionals in the field of art education. This year, the Awards Committee is proud to announce a new category: Special Needs Award. The deadline for submissions is June 2nd. Go to the  FAEA website  to complete the application and nominate a deserving colleague for the 2017 FAEA Awards recognizing outstanding professionals in the field of art education.

For those looking for professional development this summer, we have an exceptional opportunity happening in Tallahassee on June 23rd and 24th. The amazing art team at Florida State University School has put together an outstanding lineup of workshops that was created for the artist in every educator. The summer workshops are designed for small groups so that you would learn closely from outstanding instructors. Each workshop will have a maximum number of either 6, 10, or 12 participants. Be sure to  register  soon before spaces are filled! The Florida Art Education Association will also host an artists' retreat in Ocala, July 22-23, 2017. Save the date, details to come.

Even through summer, the FAEA Board of Directors are preparing to host a remarkable 65th Annual Conference in St. Petersburg. The Professional Development Committee is currently reviewing workshop proposals for the fall conference. Thanks to all members that submitted proposals and their willingness to share their expertise and commitment to  The Power of Art!  The summer is the perfect time to start creating outfits for the Saturday evening Gala. We look forward to your creative attire representing the gala theme,  What's your Superpower?

Be sure to visit the newly designed  www.faea.org ! Thanks to the hard work of the FAEA Website Revision Committee, a world-class marketing and design firm, and the staff at the Center for Fine Arts Education, the new FAEA website has now been deployed. Our new website features a job board so if you are looking for a new position or if you have a position to announce, check it out.  The FAEA Job Board is a free service to the schools and teachers who would like to teach art in Florida.

The Florida Art Education Association commends each participating school involved in the 2017 K-12 Student Art Assessment and Virtual Exhibition, a state-wide visual arts program assessment. Each year the student work exceeds the expectations and we are beyond impressed with the artwork submitted. This year there were over 1,200 entries in the program!  Click here  to view the virtual exhibitions.

Thank you each for an incredible 2016-2017 school year, we hope you have an exceptional summer and look forward to seeing you at one of our professional development programs.
