Hello Jasmine,

Celebrate Youth Art Month (YAM) this March!

2025 YAM Theme: Healing Through Color

What is Youth Art Month?

Youth Art Month (YAM) is celebrated nation-wide during the month of March. FAEA invites all art educators to participate in YAM activities this year. The purpose of YAM is to advocate the importance of visual arts education in all schools. We celebrate by highlighting classroom success stories, recognizing outstanding art teachers, and encouraging teachers to promote their art programs in their community.

How to Participate in YAM

YAM celebrations can be as simple as a single-class learning activity that focuses on the value of the arts. Celebrations can also involve school-wide or community art exhibitions, fundraisers for school art programs, or other community art outreach programs. Share your art program success stories on social media and tag @FloridaArtEd in your post and include the following hashtags: #YouthArtMonth #YAM

Share Your Story!

FAEA wants to hear from YOU! Record a quick video of yourself answering the prompt "Why is art important?" and FAEA will compile the responses into an advocacy video montage to share during Youth Art Month and at Conference. Make sure your videos follow the following requirements:

  • No more than 30 seconds
  • No student faces or student names
  • Preferred video size is 1080x1920 px or an aspect ratio of 9:16

Click here to submit your recording.

Together, we can raise awareness of the value of visual arts education in our schools and the positive impact art educators provide to their students and community.

President's Message

Dear FAEA Family,

Spring is on the horizon, and with it comes the promise of Spring Break—a much-needed chance to rest, reflect, and recharge. Whether you’re taking a trip, creating art, or simply enjoying time to yourself, I hope this break brings you joy and inspiration to carry you through the rest of the school year.

As we prepare for the warmer months, I’m thrilled to remind you about our upcoming Summer Professional Learning Sessions in South Florida! After a long hiatus, we’re returning to this vibrant region, and it’s the perfect opportunity to grow, connect, and be inspired. South Florida’s rich artistic and cultural heritage makes it the ideal backdrop for professional learning. We are so grateful for their hospitality and can’t wait to see you there!

These sessions are more than workshops—they’re a chance to:

  • Expand Your Expertise: Engage with innovative techniques and strategies to bring back to your classrooms.
  • Foster Collaboration: Connect with fellow art educators and share ideas to inspire one another.
  • Reignite Your Creativity: Take time to reflect, recharge, and rediscover your passion for teaching art.

Speaking of opportunities, have you thought about running for an FAEA leadership position? It’s so easy to have ideas and dreams for change in silence, but the only way to truly make a difference is to step out and act. Throw your name in the hat and take that leap into leadership.

You won’t be alone in this journey. Our board is a collective of passionate, supportive individuals who work together to make our organization stronger. Sometimes, just who you are is change enough. The unique experiences and perspectives you bring could be exactly what FAEA needs to grow and evolve.

Leadership is not about having all the answers—it’s about showing up, contributing your voice, and helping to shape the future of art education. Whether you’ve been teaching for decades or are just a few years in, your insights and ideas matter. This is your opportunity to be part of something bigger and to drive the changes you want to see.

As we head into Spring Break and beyond, I encourage you to reflect not only on your personal goals but also on how you can inspire and lead others. Whether it’s through professional growth, creative projects, or stepping into a leadership role, your contributions make a difference.

Let’s step into the rest of this school year with boldness, creativity, and community. Together, we can continue to shape the future of art education.

Together, we are stronger!

Warm regards,

Latonya Hicks
