Postcard from the President
It is hard to believe we are already well into the third quarter of the school year. Nancy Puri, President-Elect, and I are deeply committed to our role in the Delegates Assembly at the National Art Education Association Convention this month. We are part of a working team, serving as a liaison between the membership of our state and the NAEA Board of Directors. The camaraderie that has been fostered among our local, state, and national groups during this unique school year has been truly inspiring. Our Board of Directors, committees, and task force members have been working hard to continue to deliver high-quality resources throughout various platforms.

Time is running out for the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition. Demonstrate how resilient your art program is despite how difficult this school year has been. Submission deadline is March 15th. Continue to focus on the positives by celebrating your students’ artworks. Congratulations goes out to Miranda Pulmano (grade 6) from Glades Middle School for her winning entry for the 2021 YAM Flag Design. Miranda and her teacher, Jacqueline Ortiz, represent Glades Middle School in Broward County. Check out the winning entry here!

Professional development continues this month with two more digital learning events. Sign up for this membership benefit today on our website. The professional development team is continuing to develop innovative opportunities throughout the spring with Out of the Office series coming soon.

Marisa Griffin, chair of the Adaptive Arts Task Force, is seeking members to join the work we have started for our membership. If you are interested in joining us in developing creative initiatives, please email Info@FAEA.org. The purpose statement for this task force is:
The purpose of the Adaptive Arts Task Force is to advocate and collaborate with the membership to investigate, foster, and present methods of teaching effective adaptive art concepts, respond to the diverse needs of exceptional learners, and to support learners in reaching their full potential by participating in art education programming at their most independent level.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) task force is also starting back up this month to review valuable resources for our members. If you are interested in joining us or learning more about our initiatives, please reach out to me at Info@FAEA.org. The group embraces all perspectives and encourages leadership within our art association.

I am extremely proud of the extraordinary work we have done during this unusual year and look forward to helping build the content of our conference at Caribe Royale in Orlando on October 14th through 17th, 2021. As March is the time for school budgets, advocate for your spot at the conference in 2021. Ask your administration for support in this extremely valuable professional learning.
March will be a time to continue focusing our energy on the positives in the world, practice patience and compassion with those that do not understand us, and collaboration as we navigate the remainder of the school year together.

Youth Art Month
March is Youth Art Month (YAM)!

FAEA invites all art educators to participate in YAM activities! Celebrations can be as simple as a single class learning activity that focuses attention to the value of arts; or celebrations can involve collaborations that result in multi-school art exhibits. You can start with one thing that you already are doing successfully and design a way to share the value gained by your students with parents, with school administrators, with the community, and/or with politicians.
YAM Flag Design Winner
Congratulations to Miranda Pulmano and her teacher, Jacqueline Ortiz, for winning the 2021 Youth Art Month Flag Design Competition! Miranda is a 6th-grade student from Glades Middle School in Broward County.

The winning design, which incorporates the national theme of "Art Connects Us," was selected by a panel of judges to represent the state of Florida at the NAEA Virtual Convention!
