Greetings!

Are you interested in presenting at the 2021 FAEA Annual Conference in October? We encourage you to share your talents and expertise with fellow art educators by submitting a proposal. Session proposals are now being accepted up until May 15, 2021. Visit the conference pages on the FAEA website to learn more about how and why you should present at conference!

The end of the school year is also a time of reflection. Each year, FAEA recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service to the field of art education. If you know a colleague or friend that you believe should be recognized for their contribution to art education, please nominate them for an FAEA Award. The submission deadline is July 5, 2021. Visit the FAEA website to learn more.

FAEA is excited to host five virtual, hands-on summer workshops for members to learn, create, and share with each other! Our first workshop is with Cassie Stephens on June 18th and is centered on understanding the "why" of what we do and how that informs our teaching. Continue reading to learn more about Cassie's workshop as well as the other four summer workshops. You can register today by visiting the FAEA website.

Postcard from the President
On this May 1st, 2021, as I walk up the driveway, the fragrant scent of gardenias fills my arrival at the upper planter box garden of tomatoes, peppers, and squash in my front yard. Searching for ripe tomatoes, taking in the sounds of birds, breathing in the heady fragrance, observing the waxy white blooms and leathery, evergreen foliage is a prelude to the summer virtual 5 Senses Immersive Art Experiences. In addition to these inclusive workshops comes the creative energy of Cassie Stephens presenting, Finding Your Way, on June 18th. The professional development team has put together innovative and engaging summer learning opportunities to satisfy your need to network, collaborate, create, and share knowledge. The art you make in these summer workshops will nourish your creative soul. Bookmark FAEA.org on your laptop banner for quick access to all FAEA benefits. Consider entering some of your best summer artwork to the upcoming Member Virtual Exhibition (MVE), which will open for sub in June.

Spring is a great time to unwind by the pool or garden, read books, and build memories with old friends, new friends, and family members. It’s a time to stop and smell the roses, or in my case, gardenias. Smiling while engulfed by this aroma, I reflect upon our state art organization and how much we have endured through this unusual time in history. We, FAEA, are like gardenias. The gardenia flower symbolizes trust, hope, clarity, renewal, peace, and protection. The color white represents new beginnings, purity, and elegance. United as an association and dedicating our energy to excellence in art education allows us to blossom. Thank you for your dedication as professionals and your continued support as we dive into planning for conference at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando on October 14-17th. Be part of the experience by submitting a session proposal today!
