The month of November means that the end of the year will be here before we know it! Before we finish off 2017, FAEA has several opportunities for you to participate in, including the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition and the Youth Art Month .

This past month, FAEA hosted an incredibly successful Annual Conference in beautiful St. Petersburg. We would like to thank all of our attendees, presenters, exhibitors, and all of the venues we used in helping us make our conference a big hit!
Monthly News from the President's Palette
On behalf of the Florida Art Education Association, we hope you had an amazing conference experience and enjoyed the city of St. Petersburg! Conference can be exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. Now that we have returned to work and are reflecting on the experience, please take the time to complete the conference survey. The FAEA Board of Directors and Conference Committee will analyze the survey results in preparation for next year. We rely on the feedback from the conference surveys to improve and plan for the future.

Be sure to mark your calendar and join us for the 66th Annual FAEA Conference, October 18-21, 2018 in St. Petersburg, Florida . The theme for next year’s conference is Vintage Vogue: Time to Shine !

If conference left you inspired to present next year, plan to submit your proposal this spring! The year gets busy, so if you have a great idea for a session or workshop, mark your calendar to submit your proposals for the 2018 Conference. We look forward to the fabulous ideas!

As we approach the end of the calendar year, many of us are exhibiting student work for local and district shows. The Florida Art Education Association is pleased to provide the K-12 Student Art Assessment and Virtual Exhibition to our membership to serve as a statewide assessment for visual art and promote the achievements of students enrolled in visual art classes throughout Florida. The 2018 K-12 Student Art Assessment and Virtual Exhibition entries will be accepted from November 1, 2017 - March 5, 2018 . Log in to your Member Account to submit your students' entries. Don’t forget to take quality photographs or scan your students’ artworks! FAEA is pleased to announce that Sargent Art will generously sponsor the 2018 prizes. Check out the new prize structure for 2018, including a cash prize for the overall winning student and classroom art supplies for the overall winning teacher.

Youth Art Month is celebrated during the month of March, but it’s never too early to get ready. Get involved in Youth Art Month by submitting a student's design for Florida’s Youth Art Month Flag competition. The theme for this year is, Building Community through Art. Flag designs should communicate an aspect of Florida’s culture, history, and/or geography. The use of the YAM logo is encouraged and the words Building Community through Art should also be included. One student flag design per student can be electronically submitted to FAEA’s website. Submissions will open on November 1, 2017 and be accepted through January 17, 2018. The winning design will be exhibited along with other state YAM flags in Seattle, Washington at the NAEA Conference in March. Be on the lookout for additional details.

Even though conference was a few weeks ago, the excitement continues! We hope you are implementing new techniques, strategies, and lessons learned while at conference and enjoying your new-found professional connections. If you have a lesson or technique to share and are interested in writing an article for Fresh Paint , please email

Post conference brings a time of reflection as well as gratitude. Thank you for being a dedicated member of FAEA and for all that you do to help not only conference but the Florida Art Education Association be a success. I am truly thankful for our members, their dedication to arts education, and commitment to the strength, growth, and success of FAEA. It is an honor to be President of such an outstanding organization and remarkable educators. Have a wonderful November and enjoy the upcoming holiday season.
