Greetings!

FAEA has two upcoming opportunities for K-12 students. Submissions are now open for the Youth Art Month Flag Design Competition. The winning flag design will represent Florida and be displayed with other state winners during the NAEA Convention in March. The deadline to submit is January 14th, 2022.

Submissions are also open for the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition. This is Florida's premier program for assessing student artwork, as well as promoting the artistic achievements of these students and their teachers. The deadline to submit is March 13th, 2022.

Have you answered the conference survey yet? FAEA is still accepting survey responses about the 2021 Conference. This survey is open to all members, including those who did not attend conference this year. Your responses help FAEA provide better experiences for conference attendees and presenters.

Postcard from the President
The FAEA Annual Conference at Caribe Royale Orlando was a smashing hit as we reunited, reconnected, and recharged our artistic souls. The workshops, discussions, museum exhibitions, receptions, gala, and keynote artist Hamilton Glass provided ample opportunities to grow as professionals.

Professional learning has been a great source of inspiration and brings forth a sense of self-efficacy. The summer of 2018 brought me to Harvard University for Project Zero. This was my second encounter with this dynamic group of educators diving into the meaning-making and power of the visual arts in learning. One exhibition in their art museum I engaged with was an interactive multi-channel installation by JODI called OXO. This interaction used artificial intelligence (AI) in a game of tic-tac-toe. After engaging in this artistic interaction, I realized that over 200,000 people had played and lost to the algorithm that JODI created. In contrast, at our conference, everyone was a winner! You, as part of the FAEA community, add to the vibrancy of the association through engaging workshops and sharing of best practices. Now is the time to start organizing and sharing your student entries for the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition and Youth Art Month (YAM) Flag Design Contest. Thanks to all members for making our conference an event to remember, as well as contributing to the excellence of art education in the state.

FAEA is committed to acknowledging, honoring, and promoting inclusive practices that embrace diversity and equity throughout the organization.

As my tenure as President of FAEA comes to a close, I urge you to stay involved and participate in task force work, committee work, and actively participate in summer workshops. Enable the next generation of art educators to learn and grow in our association. Through our committees, along with our website and publication Fresh Paint, we strive to keep our members part of the discourse by lifting a multiplicity of voices to spark a dialogue about art, education, and the next generation of learners. Email info@faea.org to place your name on the committee volunteer list.

November opens the gateway for holiday celebrations. Keep FAEA on your holiday gift list by donating today! Every dollar makes a difference in keeping us the top art education association in the state. Together, we make a difference in the lives of all learners in the state of Florida. Thank you for all that you do for FAEA, and best wishes as we celebrate with family and friends through long walks on the beach and bonfire discussions late at night. I am grateful to be part of the FAEA community!
