Postcard from the President
I would like to reiterate my appreciation for all the work you do to educate the next generation of creative thinkers and makers despite the obstacles that the current health crisis has put in our way. I want you to know that, while we are not able to be together physically for conference, our commitment to connecting with you and providing a rich professional development opportunity is right around the corner with the FAEA Virtual Annual Conference on November 7th and 8th. Saturday morning, I will present opening remarks to welcome and update you on our behind-the-scenes work at FAEA. Please tune-in and become part of this dynamic community. Workshops and discussion forums along with a keynote address by Gordon C. James will rejuvenate your inner needs as educators and artists while adding to your pedagogical tool kits with resources promoting valuable strategies to meet the needs of all students. We will have an assortment of engaging events during conference. Our app will provide you with timely communication and opportunities to keep on top of the silent auction, awards ceremony, and stimulating new knowledge as we share and personalize your learning.

As art educators we know how to break down barriers to teaching and become stronger versions of ourselves. Leading through the Creative Leadership Model has provided me with enriching experiences with colleagues throughout the state and nationally as we face hardships together. Membership in our organization is essential as we stay united as professionals. Encourage your colleagues - new to the profession or more experienced - to join or renew their membership today. Membership in FAEA is crucial to our success; just like getting out to Vote in November signifies a strong democracy.

Events throughout the state remain in a virtual platform and I encourage you to engage with the resources available through our museums. One exhibition at the Contemporary Art Modern Project (The Camp Gallery) in collaboration with Fiber Artists-Miami Association (FAMA) provided a stimulating signature exhibition commemorating American women winning the vote. The themed exhibition, Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse, is a powerful display of art representing social voices that shape democracy. These images are a great starting point for visual literacy lessons that help communicate and identify craft as a fine art as well as a powerful source of positive social change. The exhibited works are only flags, as the flag or banner is used as a metaphor or symbol of solidarity with the women of the suffrage movement in this exhibition. I urge you to investigate the power of art with your students using Florida Art Museums and Galleries. Stay connected and share your voice with us through social media, virtual learning series, and up-coming webinars. FAEA is your source for continued professional development, visit our award-winning website for more information!
